I shot a 416 rigby and it was amazing.....if you like broken shoulders. :chuckle: :chuckle: I shot it three times and loved it.  With that being said I wouldn't own one unless I was making a Trip to Africa.

(I am assuming the 416 remington mag is similar to the rigby)

I have a 416 wby and love to shoot it but at over $6 a shot I don't take it out much! I too want to use it in Africa whenever I decide to go but it sure worked good on a moose I shot in the Yukon. Maybe a little over kill but it was fun.

.416 Taylor (.458 win mag necked down). It really isn't all that fun for plinking, but would be very useful for Cape Buffalo.

I used one in Africa to kill a Cape Buffalo. 400 grain swift A frame bullets. It kicked but was manageable. But I practice with my .338 win mags a lot every year. Just use some padding on your shoulder when sighting in. You will not notice when shooting at an animal.

I had a 416 Rigby for a while and it was a ton of fun! They get pretty expensive to feed even if you handload them though. For fun you can run 41 caliber pistol bullets out of it. Accuracy isn't great, but a 250gr cast bullet over a case full of Trail Boss powder will work just fine for shooting rabbits.
