« on: January 28, 2014, 04:15:56 PM »
My Weim had been acting weird the last few days and when he refused food yesterday I knew something was wrong.  He is only 4. Xrays shows his heart is 5x bigger than normal.
We dropped him off with a specialist.  Its not looking good pretty depressed right now

That is terrible Ross. It is crazy how attached you get to your pets and for me, dogs the most. They truly are a man's best friend. Hopefully everything turns out for the best!

Very sorry to hear the news.

First off sorry, some advice for you second,if the vet starts in with medication to correct or hinder the affliction, get a script for it and have it filled at costco. My dad had a golden retriever that sported the enlarged heart, the vet gave the dog a month to live and as such dispensed the meds, the meds were super spendy, when she survived the month the vet wrote him a script and it was filled at costco for 1/3 the price at the vets. The med for the golden was the EXACT same med a human gets for an enlarged heart. My dads dog made it another 4 years on the meds, she was afflicted at about the same age as yours.

First off thanks everyone for the nice thoughts.  Since I work for Costco this is my plan of action.  He has many things wrong with him and the dr gives him a year.  He has afib and some other heart thing.  His heart is not in his own area.  Apparently He has had this from birth.  Some kind of hernia that his heart is shared in the same area as his intestines and liver.  Very confusing to explain. . I am supposed to keep him from exercise. .. yeah right you ever own a weim?
Anyway I am going to give it a couple months and see how he is doing and if the quality of life is worth the money or not. They said he could easily just drop of a heart attack.  I am so emotional I just need time to think it all out.

Rough sledding bro, especially if you ain't owned many canines,I've owned so many I've become callused,I'm at 28 dogs in 45 years of life.I was a wreck at the end of the first 15 ,I've gotten bad news on a few the last few years and just have em put down on the spot .The best thing for mourning is fresh puppy breath. My dads vet gave his dog 1 month with meds,Keeping any dog still and out of nuclear meltdown is a chore.I wish you the best of luck during this trying time.
