Decoy sleds / carts - what do you guys use?
« on: January 29, 2014, 12:03:18 PM »
Thinking about getting one for next year - leaning towards the Otter Predator XL, that doubles as a layout blind.  Any recommendations?  Would love to hear what you guys think.

Fold down  garbage can from Lowes. Zip tied to game hauler. 4" dia, PVC pipe taped to side rail to hold shotgun.

Or a Cabelas sled.

I use the same one as in the pic above, Super Mag Hauler from Cabelas.

I have a mag hauler and bungee my sled in it.  When I hit the waters edge I can float everything out and leave the cart at waters edge.  I used to have a 4 wheeled cart, but sold it.  Looking for another cart at some point.
Cut em!

My son with sled.

That's the same sled i use.  I've modified it to have an old decoy bag over it so my deks don't fall out.  That sled is the best!

Here's one I want to make. Raise the side hinge on one side to allow it to lay flatter. Weld a receiver to it so I can mount it to the hitch on the back of the truck. a few bungees to lessen the pressure on it around the upper portion. wheels are removable.

That's my big sled and too big. I have had the smaller ones pull better on no water. We take the ropes off and route a rope down both sides and tie it in back of sled. We leave about a five foot loop out front for pulling over shoulder. Attached to the loop of rope is a smaller cord which can slide along the loop. This allows you to cross those plank bridges by walking over and pulling the sled to you. When not in use we slide the extra line to the sled and tuck it under the gear.

We also take a drill motor and drill holes around the sled rail lip. Than you can secure your load with bungees.

Carts all the way

100 FB geese in one load

Unless I'm hunting a tidal flat I take a 4 wheeled cart everywhere.

How do you guys hide these? Do you just wheel them far away or do you take the time to brush them up?

Was thinking of making a wheeled frame to hold a sled. That way if I need to run through water or mud I could pull the frame off and drag the sled. I may just go with a frame pack and slot bags as suggested in another post and make two trips.

I push mine away, sometimes the middle of the field to help direct the birds.
