Nov. 15th Mule Deer
« on: November 15, 2008, 08:54:41 PM »
Took a drive over to see if we could catch some bucks out and about. We arrived at our location at day break and were on the road home by 3:30. We saw 22 deer and 6 bucks, one pretty decent. Caught him bedded about 11:30 at 306 yards. Watched him for a while til he got up and was checking/tending a hot doe. At one point he gave us a nose high lip curl. She ran up the hill towards us and ended up within 90 yards of our location. A decent 4x4 with terrific fronts but real short, weak backs. We estimated him at about 23 or 24 wide.

These are Some of the lesser bucks we saw........ Sorry about the quality, I need a bigger zoom lense. these ranged between 250, 330, and 150 yards.

There is one area that I like to hike into because we usually see deer in there. I was curious to see if the migraters were in there. They were, but I was shocked to see how many big two points there are. Heavy and wide but just slick 2x2's. And to take a few pics and video.

Also saw a few dink 2x2's and 2x3's. Ran into a late tag hunter who's been hunting in there for 9 days and has seen a ton of bucks but too many two points according to him.

The buck pictured below is a 4x4 but both backs are short, the left has a small Y the right has a funny point on it. Almost looks to me like dominent genes were from a two point, Huge fronts.
