« on: February 03, 2014, 07:14:24 AM »
Im in the process of customising a 1911. Almost all the internals are done and fitted. Now its time to pick some color and type of coating.

Whats the best and why? I know nothing about these. Whats your experience?

I use heat cure Cerakote. I've used Duracoat and had 5 plus rifles done by Walter Birdsong in Black-T. That was back when DuraCoat and Cerakote weren't even a option. Cerakote is great stuff and I believe Birdsongs coating to be just about equal. Birdsongs process is way more involved and specialized, one must send their firearm in. There are plenty of Cerakote applicators, several I believe are site sponsors.

If your a hands on type guy, it very easy to apply Cerakote yourself.

Duracoat hasn't help a candle to the Cerakotes durability for me and I use my chit.
