I'f I'm looking at a deer....lets say it is a 5x5 with my 9x12x50 do I count the eye guards as a point? Also, if I do, is it an 8pt or a 4x4 with eye guards?

OK, all joking aside, the OP makes a good point.  Using the correct terminology does indeed improve our understanding of technical topics.  For less experienced marksmen, this can be very important.  Think of all the technical topics that are often misunderstood (ballistics in ammunition, or the difference between horsepower and torque).

I knew I'd take some heat for the rant.  But hey, I've bit my tongue for years regarding the topic and my tongue was really starting to hurt so I thought I'd mention it.

Thank you pd.  At least you understand.  I thought maybe the rant could benefit someone that had been using the terminology wrong.

And for the record:  eye guards don't count, antlers not horns, and I may have seen a herd of bigfoots and heard a bigfoot...............and a 3x9 scope just doesn't let enough light in for my use.
