Entiat A
« on: November 17, 2008, 08:08:14 AM »
I know this unit and have hunted it for years.  There is no doubt that the number of big bucks is way down from what it used to be.  I'm sure there were a few big ones taken but I sure didn't see any bigger than 24" and I wasn't road hunting!  We had more weather this year than last and the numbers of deer was still very low, I think the quality of the Entiat hunt is going down very quickly.  I was amazed at the number of guys that were okay with road hunting and shooting small 3 point and fork horns.  I guess a trophy is different for everybody.  It'll be interesting to see how the archery guys do this year.

That’s a good buck, love the height!

Looks like you got him on one of the few fog/rain free days.

So, what is the answer?  Fewer tags OR should we try a coule of late season units that are draw only AND 4 pt or better. That would keep the young bucks from being shot by the roadies... :twocents:

Thats a nie lookin buck. I like that mass coupled with the width. They are cool lookin congrats.  Hey No Bark to be honest I wish every unit had an anter restriction. I mean whats the hurt they might be able to find something that works better for a particular unit. I just wish this state managed there game and fish better.  :twocents:

Heck NO!  Manage the permit numbers, but I don't want anyone to hunt for a big buck, who'll settle for a little one.  That way, we'd just make them stay out until they killed a small 4-point with better potential to be a future big buck.  We need someone to shoot the big 2-points ...
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Agreed, limit the permit numbers...  If someone wants to shoot a small buck on a late hunt, go for it.  Just means it leaves more breeding for the mature bucks...

Besides, the buck to doe ratios are still VERY good, just a LOT of immature bucks and the genetics I believe have been wiped out over the last 5-8 years...   :twocents:
