I saw this over on another hunting site posted by Randy Newberg defining a "wolf lover" (this is a partial excerpt):

"a wolf lover is anyone who does not believe the barstool rumors that wolves run in packs of 100, eat children from playgrounds, and are the demise of civilization as we know it.
 
Even if you admit wolves have some impact and you hunt/trap them, failure to subscribe to the SFW/BGF Little Red Riding Hood fairy tales will put you in the wolf lover crowd.

I thought this pretty well summed it up    And I also thought of those of us labeled wolf-lovers on this site and if we are in the company of guys like Randy Newberg, then we are on the right team

I don't consider you a wolf lover.  I strongly disagree with your management thoughts but I don't think you fall into the wolf lover category.

That is actually a pretty accurate decription of it.  I have been called a wolf lover a hundred times on here 

Whatever.  Run for your houses, the wolves are coming.  I will be in the woods hunting for them while the serious anti wolfers are maniacally typing away on outdoor forums about how bad the situation is getting.

I think the main issue have is the "Management" label. Doing NOTHING is still considered management.  You can have a great "Plan" and do a poor job of execution...

The issue is that normal hunting of wolves does very little in the way of harvest, the numbers prove it out. Hunting trapping, aerial gunning, year round seasons, and likely poisen are the only real ways to "manage" wolves. When you take a state like WA that pays no attention the the lessons learned from Canadians, and the states of ID, Mt, And WY its  We have fewer tools, smaller herds, and less action on the part of our State "Managers".  Every time i hear some one cautious about killing too many wolves I'm beside myself. Killing wolves is not that different than killing coyotes. If there is a prey base you can shoot them up all day year round and you would still have them.

So many of you that telegraph your "concern" for moving too aggressively toward wolves just frustrate the hell out of many hunters. You may not be the source of the problem but are definitely the lightning rod.

not wrong I would say some are uninformed with blind eyes and deaf ears,some learn and are like ahh ok thats what a wolf does alight others think its the end of the world having predators back in the eco system where they belong

One thing I agree with you on is that most people (both sides) seem to think there are only two camps to fall into but I don't see it that way at all.

I imagine that we'd get along in person so I'm not going to get crazy online.

It's not the end of the world UNLESS your management is to do nothing at all, which is what got us into this mess we are in.  If they would have allowed the states to manage the grey wolf, LIKE they promised in the beginning when they reached 300 in all three states, you'd have very little hard feelings by hunters and ranchers.  They had a golden opportunity for both sides of this issue to be happy.  Wolves back in the eco system and being properly managed by hunters and trappers.  Didn't happen and won't happen in WA.  It will end up being 10 times worse in WA, just because a large faction of the political machine in WA will never allow proper management.  Everyone will suffer.

  That's where I am at, if the wolf lovers would have kept their end of the deal wolves would mostly be a non-issue. As I've said many times, there's room for a small managed population of wolves in wilderness and parks where they do not cause problems. Wyoming did it right, in the 80% of the state where most of the population and ranching occurs, wolves are shot on site.

Based on your response, I was wrong...you probably do have a pretty good handle on where I would stand...and I'm sure we would get along even if we disagree on aspects of wolf management      How dare you inject resaonableness into an internet forum!

I was just expecting you to pigeon-hole me into some generic "leave the wolves alone" philosophy...a lot of folks (including me) tend to oversimplify other peoples management view points, particularly in controversial issues.

Agreed with all above.  There's not a single large mammal that we don't manage in some way, even in the West.  Wolves should be absolutely no exception.  In some regions within each state, I'd agree with Bearpaw and others- best policy is to hunt (and trap) them hard and minimize their presence and their influence!  And for the record, I've been called everything from a "wolf lover" to a "wolf hater", so I guess where I fall depends on who you ask.  And my thinking has been changed by others' perspectives on this forum, so I don't come here just for "affirmation".

I'm pretty sure you could make wolves open season year round to firearms and likely not make a huge dent.

Do any of you know of an area that lacks coyotes for very long, even under intensive hunting pressure? I know of only 1 and its a dryland farmer that LOVES to shoot coyotes...

"Both sides" probably oversimplify the views others have on controversial management issues.  I posted Randy Newbergs tounge-in-cheek definition because I thought it was pretty darn accurate and funny (or sad).  People call him a wolf lover at the same time the enviro crazies send him death threats for shooting a wolf on his hunting show..more importantly he stands up for public land DIY hunters more than anyone I am aware of...I posted this so folks that get called "wolf lovers" can realize they are in good company...and that if someone calls you a "wolf lover"...that often just means you don't subscribe to severe paranoia about secret government conspiracies or that wolves will end all hunting as we know it.

 Good to know lol My name is Jon brown I'm going to school for wildlife biology/ecologist due too the fact that I like wolves in the eco system I have been look upon as a wolf lover glad we got this "wolf lover" anonymous lol due we get chips for posting lol
