Up until 10 days ago, I had 3 toms gobbling at my place in the evening as they roosted, but I haven't heard a peep since.  We do have a sassy hen that has nested 50' from the house.  She puts up a fuss when the lawnmower goes by.  I'm surprised I haven't seen any poults yet.  There are generally more toms on the patch of Cle Elum Ridge above my place than I can keep track of.  This year I only knew of 5 that survived the season.  I'm thinking we have more of the same next year.  I sure hope it is a good hatch because we need it.

Don't think the winter was extremely harsh but they sure did seem to thin out. looks like they may have went high early in the Teanaway but in other areas seemed to stay low later. Liberty they didn't seem to be up high until late and where we hunted on the NE of the State they were still down in wintering areas even at Mother's Day. Time to focus more on some predation reduction, myself think that may be a larger cause. Saw some scat in Teanaway filled with either primary wing or tail quills in it.

It was a tough year around Cle Elum and Teanaway.  No gobbles in the usual spots above Cle Elum.  Hopefully we get another dry spring and can start to build to population back up.  That fall season is a joke.   :bdid:  WDFW needs to get rid of that.  Why kill more birds in the fall on a population that is trying to rebuild? :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

The turkey population in the Teanaway area is not big enough in my opinion to have even had a fall season to begin with just my opinion. But hey what do I know.

Well it's the standard Knee jerk Wildlife management we grown accustom to with the WDFW, a little bit of private land problems and they just unlimit the tags.

I noticed a big increase in Ravens in the area, getting very aggressive, not sure if that is anything out of the ordinary but seems like depredation from ravens is taking its toll on the turkey population, I have had ravens shred and eat 5 of my laying hens this year along with a dozen or so chicks, not sure if its a over population of hungry ravens or just a smarter breed of raven, the things are getting pretty sneeky

 :yeah:

Ravens and magpies are hell on poults and other gamebird chicks.  I've seen a raven attacking free-ranging chickens that were several weeks old.

They kill excessively when given the chance.  I had a magpie get into one of my quail pens and kill 28 young quail one morning this spring.  Didn't eat a single one.  I imagine they do the same to turkey poults when afforded the chance.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Because most of the locals do not want them there. I am in the teanaway alot and from the people I have met I would say 75% of the people hate the turkeys. As long as the locals keep complaining the state is gonna have a fall season
If its brown knock it down

Agreed but how many of these locals would allow hunting on their properties? the big issue is that if we have late season tags and no private land hunting the birds on public land will venture to safer areas. If we hunt or use other deterrents on the private areas to keep these birds from thinking it's a refuge.
