Reps Needed for BLM Eastern WA Resource Advisory Council
« on: February 11, 2014, 03:47:50 PM »
Portland, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public nominations for open positions on its Resource Advisory Councils (RAC) that advise the BLM on public land issues. The BLM in Oregon and Washington is collecting nominations for the following RACs:

-John Day-Snake RAC (deadline March 27, 2014)
-Southeast Oregon RAC (deadline March 27, 2014)
-Eastern Washington RAC (deadline March 27, 2014)
-San Juan Islands RAC (deadline March 22, 2014)
-Steens Mountain RAC (deadline February 21, 2014)

The BLM’s RACs, composed of citizens chosen for their expertise in natural resource issues, help the Bureau carry out its stewardship of 245 million acres of public lands. “The advice given to the BLM by these citizen-based Resource Advisory Councils is a vital part of the BLM’s collaborative approach to land management,” said BLM Oregon/Washington State Director Jerry Perez. “Citizen input enhances our agency’s ability to administer and conserve these lands for the use and enjoyment of current and future generations of Americans,” continued Perez.

Individuals may nominate themselves or others to serve on a RAC. Nominees, who must be residents of the state where the RAC has jurisdiction, will be judged on the basis of their training, education, and knowledge of the council’s geographical area. Nominees should also demonstrate a commitment to consensus building and collaborative decision making. All nominations must be accompanied by letters of reference from any represented interests or organizations, a completed RAC application, and any other information that speaks to the nominee’s qualifications. For more information or to find an application, visit: www.blm.gov/or/rac

For further information the E WA RAC provides oversight for about 430,000 acres of BLM land in Eastern WA. The more noteworthy/well known areas are the Saddle Mountains, Yakima River Canyon, Juniper Dunes, Palmer Lake, Palmer Mountain, Douglas/Duffy Creek, Revere Ranch, etc.

Regarding this council nominations are being accepted for:
- One member representing historical & archaeological interests.
- One member representing education and interpretation interests.
- One member representing BLM grazing lessees.
- One member representing commercial timber interests.
- One member representing transportation and rights-of-way interests.
- One member representing commercial energy and mineral development interests.
- Three members representing environmental & ecological conservation interests

Would be nice to see some Hunt-Wa members on this council. Nominees do NOT need to be from eastern WA, but simply be residents of WA.

I want to bump this up This would be a great way for hunters to both be heard, AND have a voice in what is going on out there.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I agree. Not many think of BLM in WA simply because there isn't much land (about 430k acres) and it's basically all in eastern WA. But there is a good chance if you hunt/fish eastern WA you may have been on BLM land a time or two...

If anything, going to meetings and reporting back to here would do more for "citizen" participation than plenty of other things. While there are some people here that run thier mouth i have heard some really good discussion and ideas here.  :twocents:
