Stolen Buck

Any spokane guys on her mind keeping an eye out for this buck. I shot it 2 years ago and a friend of mine knows a taxidermist in Spokane who was getting started and was doing work for us pretty cheap. I know My fault.  He said he would like to fix the busted tips for me. I was just going to euro it the way it was but thought what the heck, it would be neat if the broken points could be fixed to match the other side.

Got a phone call and he claims his shop was broken into and lost about 15 mounts. This buck was by no means a trophy to most but everything I shoot is a trophy to me. Anyway if anyone happens to see this rack floating around I would appreciate it back. Kind of unique with the busted up tips on the right side.

Sage, i never went to his shop. My buddy dropped the horns off for me. Pretty sure north of spokane but not too far.

And I will be checking for police report. He is wanting to make it up to me and do a shoulder mount and a bird for free. Im am leary about dropping stuff off there now.

I was just thinking about this today after joining the site a couple of days ago.  about 7 years ago I shot my first and largest bull to date with my bow in south central washington.   Anyway dad said he would pay to have it mounted for me,  I was 21 and broke so of course i ageed.  We took it out to a local taxadermist, thinking everything was great.  Two months later I get a call and it is her asking if i came out and got my horns to get them scored or something.  I said no.   Well they were gone, only mine, a 300 class 5 point?  Why, she really had no answers for me, basically i was *censored* out of luck, so said her contract.  I was really pissed for a long time and could have killed her and still probably could.   They are on somebody elses wall now I am sure, maybe some day I will find them, I hope you find yours as well.The bull is the one i am pictured with if anyone knows anything

first rule . NEVER LEAVE THE ANTLERS AT A TAXI UNLESS YOU KNOW VERRY WELL. no offese  to the taxis on this site. an honest one usually tells you to take them with you until they need them . a cape can be replaced but the antlers can-not. i once had a bear hide taken from me. the taxi left town chocolate brown legs cinnimon back and 6ft 5 frome nose to tale. it sucks good luck i feel youre pain. man that sucks, sorry to hear about that.  why someone would steal a set of horns they didnt even harvest themselves just mind boggles me....  hope you get to the bottom of this.  thieves suck!

Michelle-they were a bit soft. I think he had a hard time loosing velvet and buggered them up getting it off.

I use to see this down in Georgia.  I recognized it right off.  First case I have seen in Washington.  I supose it is a WA buck? 

I was told it was some kinda rot that ate away at the horn.  Now I don't know if it is contracted while in velvet that prevents the bone from getting hard or what.  It would make sense that it would get it while in velvet since the horn is pretty spongy.  That is why all the antler tips are boken off.  They were busted while he was trying to rub.

I will do some more reasurch on this.

There was some remains of velvet if that helps. It almost looked like they were burned.

Yeah, deer with this so called rot or what ever it is on their antlers can sometimes be black.  I did notice their was some velvet left on the antler.  Not sure why.

Horn rot. Dont know why but it just  happens to some I guess. Let us know what you find Mich. I have a bull I did  a euro on that is really bad. Real black horn and all the tips are broke , even the main beam.

I am not sure but I wonder it it will cause the antler to eventually crumble over an extended period of time?  When I did tine repairs on the bucks in Gerogia I use to cut the tips down to hard bone and rebuild.  Only had to do a couple.  Most people wanted them to remain natural.

Since its Slinger's buck, it most likely has horn rot. Especially if it spent any time in his truck.

Did he break those while he was in velvet? That sucks what a teribble feeling.

Long story short. Same thing happened to me with a bear, a 7 footer. After a year and a half of hearing every excuse in the book. I finally had a lawyer write a letter to the taxi and his ex wife. I had my bear back within two days. He had it the whole time. It didn't cost that much. Food for thought. That sort of thing just gives taxi's a bad name. Know your taxidermist!!!!!

Every time I see this thread pop up with a new reply I get pissed off all over again thinking about *censored* like this. Most of you know about my 04 late buck tag, not quite the same but still know exactly how he feels
