Bearded Lady
« on: December 05, 2008, 01:57:12 PM »
Well after some hoping and praying it has come into play !  :IBCOOL:
I was on my friends hunting board the other day and saw a bulletin about a dog that needed a new home, so naturally I opened it up and read it. Before I finished the whole thing I found myself grabbing my cell and hitting numbers.
I spoke to a lady who was the mother of the young man who said Ryan had gone to bed already.
I inquired about the dog, and she said she wasnt sure if she was avail for certain but would have Ryan call me.
At 5:40am my phone rang with a Ca area code.  I sprung to my senses and answered.  He told me the dog was available and we began about an hour conversation.  He had to go as he arrived to work, but said he would call me later to get my email address as to send a picture of Maggie.
Later that evening, he called back and got my mail and proceeded to send me 2 pics.
I called afterwards and again had about an hour talk.
Shortly after hanging up, he sent me a message saying that indeed I could have her !!!!!!!! :P
He is heading off to school for the CDFG and it is a live in program, thus making him give up his girl. :'(
He hasnt decided right yet the exact day that the deal will come together, but it should be within a few weeks !
We are currently working on getting her to Wa from SoCal.  Not sure if aircargo is the best option, or just driving down and getting her would be best ????

There wouldnt be any HW guys or gals heading down and back in the near future would there ??

So without further delay......................
I share, Maggie  4yr GWP.........

Awesome looking.  May I make a suggestion.  I can post on the hound hunting boards I visit, there are sections on each board about dog hauling.  Lots of guys will haul your dog for $100 or less.  I went to Northern CA last month and took two dogs down and brought three back.  It's a thought anyways, you might be able to get her up here or close for next to nothing.

Thank you Fred.  I am tickled to death to be able to get her.  I have always wanted a Wire !  I think they are the cutest dogs out there !  Not saying my English isnt cute.....LOL.

That might be a way to go ?   I will have to stay on top of the time frame thing though.
Ryan is heading to Mt this weekend and after he gets back its not long before he goes to school.  I will get a better time frame soon and let you know.
How are these guys ?  Im sure they are like you or I, they love dogs or they wouldnt do what they do.

Most are good guys, I wouldn't do it unless it was someone I knew on the boards.  I have met quite a few of them and they are stand up guys who love dogs and would take good care of her during the long trip.  Once you get an idea of the time frame let me know and I'll put the word out and see if we get any takers and then you/we can decide if that is the route you want to go.

P.S.  They are one of my favorite type dogs as well.  Someday when I get out of running Leopard Curs I will be getting a Wire myself.  :)

congrats. I have a draht, same diff. if you have not had a wire before...they are amazing dogs, but they are 100% go getter when awake. I am purely speculating here, but if the dog is coming from CA it prolly does not have much yard to run in. mine will cover every inch of my 5 acre fenced yard about 3 times a minute. be ready for a little bit of spazzo. when they calm down they are unmatched hunters. you will be impressed. mine is 8 months old and will retreve from the water and point like a pro. she does not even know she is a little dog.....lol.

here is a couple pics of my "bearded lady to get you by"

Nice Drahthaar!   Best nose on a hunting dog that I've ever had around.  They are one of the best breeds.  Good luck!

High country, Great looking guy !  I have hunted over them in the past and know full well they hunt hard.  My English hunts at a high pace herself.  Its awesome when they are covering ground and come to a complete stop faster than a bullett hitting a wall.

Thanks Weazel !  See, it all worked out....... didnt it.
For those not in the loop, Weazel posted a pic of his wire and I was drooling and asked how he went about getting it.
I asked him to keep his eyes open if something came around. Well it all unfolded all by itself when I came across Maggie.

I talked to Ryan tonight, and he said when he gets back from his trip in a week we can start making arragements to get her to her new home.
IM STOKED !!!  I will still have time to do some hunting with her.

It is funny how it all works out...I just went to the dog show to talk to breeders, and ended up getting a dog that day, and took her home a week later.  She is full of energy, and is a pain in the house so far, but all I can see is potential so far.  Hope this all works out sooner than later and you get to take her into the field.
