The course was setup well today.

I will say I would like to see you guys start counting an 11 ring like organized shoots do.

We also got yelled at for shooting the flat range after the 3D shoot was over...
Apparently it was "closed" but no one had said anything?
For the past 10 years we've always shot the flat range after 3D shoots, but apparently that wasn't ok today?
Also they didn't do a "awards ceremony" like they normally do. :dunno:

Fun shoot today, even though it was cold!

Sure wish my son, daughter and I could have made it.  Between my daughter's dance schedule, the fact that my arrows still have broad heads on them...and that my bow is in our travel trailer, in storage, we weren't able to make it work.  I even thought about going, just to take pictures, but that didn't happen either.

Glad to hear it was an enjoyable time.  From the Facebook posts I've seen, sounds like A LOT of people had a great time!!

Matt, we'll take the 11 under advisement.

as to the closed range, I got a call from the shoot chairman (who is the one that yelled at you) that HE got a complaint about the proximity of the dinosaur target to the back of the course.  I wasn't there for setup of the course, but when i pulled that target, i could easily see the concern!  straight shot from the back of the course!  we'll be discussing that at our next meeting.     I agree with the decision to halt shooting until that target was pulled, but notice should have been handled better.

also, with trophies.  I think Rob was expecting people to pick up their award whenever they were leaving, as lots of people were turning in scores and not sticking around.  We'll work towards a solution to that, as well!

Thanks for the feedback, and hope to see everyone back for the IBO March 20-30!

Yeah we knew that Dino was behind the target butts but thought it had been pulled long before we had started shooting, and there hadn't been any kind of announcement about not shooting the butts, so we didn't know any better.

11 ring would be awesome! I know a lot of shooters don't care much one way or the other on 11 ring scoring, but the more serious competitors all enjoy it.

I look forward to the IBO coming up, its always a fun shoot!

Matt, can I ask what the difference is between scoring an X and an 11?

An 11 ring gives you the ability to make up for a bad shot or blown yardage..

With as many good shooters as we have if you shoot one or two 8's you will be out of the game because there is no way to make up for lost ground.
With a 11 count I can shoot an 8 and then shoot two 11's in a row to try and make up for my mistake.
It adds more excitement to the game which is why all the major 3D organizations have some type of inner scoring (ASA, IBO)

With the current system if one guy shoots an 8, he cant do anything to correct it. All he can do is hope his buddies also shoot an 8.
It changes the mentality from "I can shoot good and make up for this" to "Man I hope he misses"

AHA!  Thanks for that explanation.  i guess as a guy that knows he won't be near the top of the leaderboard I never considered that!   :chuckle:

This year's 3D shoots have already been advertised with non-IBO rules (other than the IBO, obviously!) but I'll add it to the minutes to bring up for next year.  As long as we can take only the scoring from IBO and not all 1,543 shooter classes, I'm good with the change!

Yeah you dont need to take all the IBO rules!
Just say "scoring 11, 10, 8, 5"
The Cataldo shoot finely started doing this after we complained for 10 years :IBCOOL:
