Vortex Razor HD? any experience?

Hey all, am looking pretty hard at the Vortex Razor HD in 16-48x65. Does anyone have any experience with this glass? Would like an all around scope, one that can adjust fine enough for counting growth rings/points, but also one that is reasonable for packing around. Thanks! (I know opinions differ, so when I say reasonable, i guess what I mean is I am willing to sacrifice a few extra ounces for quality)

I picked up the 20-60x85 and absolutely love it! Its a little heavier than i would like but the razors are well worth the money.

I almost bought that one but ended up with the 85....I've looked through both and there both great....I've been doin a lot of research on them...the 65 would be a great all around spotter...if weight isn't an issue get the 85mm....hit up elknut he sells them and knows all about them....I just ordered mine this week and waitin for it to get here

Coming from a guy who has had large and small spotters, go with the 85mm.  If you aren't hunting big country it isn't as big of a deal, but walking several miles or crossing a giant drainage because you thought you had a shooter spotted sucks when all you could see was the "frame" of the animal.  Its like anything, when you first use it you will be like "man this thing is bulky and heavy".  But like all things, once you get used to using it you won't trade it for the world!  Just my

Dad picked one up 2 yrs ago.  Have and direct comparison to the same size Swarovski and felt they were close.  We also use tiny ED50's for our hikes.  I have not used a bigger lense scope yet but would like to try one.  I think you could get used to the size.  Would be fun to have an optics get together some weekend day, we really could get some comparisons!  Someone plan it, I'd be willing to drive 4 hours for it.

Dad picked one up 2 yrs ago.  Have and direct comparison to the same size Swarovski and felt they were close.  We also use tiny ED50's for our hikes.  I have not used a bigger lense scope yet but would like to try one.  I think you could get used to the size.  Would be fun to have an optics get together some weekend day, we really could get some comparisons!  Someone plan it, I'd be willing to drive 4 hours for it.

  This could be a costly outing!  Just think of all the ticked off wives when we all come home wanting new optics

Mine gave me the OK to buy the razor hd 85.... I think it helped I told her we could just split the taxes this year

I just picked up a set of 10x42 razor binos.  If the spotting scope is like the binos then I wouldn't hesitate getting it.  I'm very happy with the binos, and even choose them over the swaros in the same category.  Saved a few hundred bux and got a better warranty too.

I could have saved up for one and she wouldn't have cared but looked at it side by side and for the difference the 2 had, the very little I could see anyways I couldn't spend the difference...not to mention the outstanding vortex warranty

I picked up an Outdoorsmans medium tripod a few years back and honestly think it is the best tripod on the market.  I put their pistol grip head on it and it works great but I will be replacing it this year.  Not quite strong enough to hold the big glass rock solid.  Its awesome with my binos and smaller spotter though.

When you look at tripods wieght is a issue I have the 11-33 razor and on a ridge with stiff wind with a light tripod the wind would almost knock it over

my tripod and head are dammed heavy and a PITA to carry up the hill in the morning 

that said, when setup properly it can withstand any windstorm and even my spastic hand s bumping into it all day.  once I get it up there and can pan around super smooh all day I say that its worth the effort.

Outdoorsmans tripod is one of the lightest on the market but its not blowing over anytime soon, if set up right.  The kegs have three different angles they can be set at so the harder it blows the more angle you put on the legs.  They are spend but worth every penny.

Just got my HD in the mail today and I am glad I ordered this..can't wait to get it in the woods
