can any one say "stupidity". trying to land with a cable hooked above you. very lucky all around.

If you watch closely the DA on the ground pulled the cable right into the rotor

This guy wasn't so lucky. He got killed a few months later helo logging. RIP.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

 wonder if the cable was suppose to unhook from the chopper and failed to release?  Looks like the guy on the ground thought it would be a brilliant idea to try and jerk the cable free from the hook and pulled it right into the rotors.

shouldn't there have been someone on the ground telling the pilot he wasn't clear?
I don't get him landing with cable hooked up. maybe if it was released on top & coiling underneath,but not hooked up. not a chopper pilot but I don't get it. bad communication?

Exactly.  I used to work around helicopters and this was a big no no. This was not pilot error. it was ground crew error. Lucky to both be alive.

You can see it at 32-33 seconds. The ground crewman jumps up and pulls the cable into the rotors.

That was a bad situation that could have had far more serious consequences! I bet everyone there had to clean their shorts!

I think he might have lost his hand or some fingers, see how hard he gets flung?
