NE slow for us...

I was there Friday thru Sunday and saw a couple of bucks in thick brush and no shot.Alot of road hunters and saw two deer killed.

Hunt the lower elevations.  Many of the yearlings died.  So there are less young bucks and the older ones are making mistakes with the rut in full swing.  We had our luck from 6:40 - 7:30 am and 3:30 - 4:30 pm.  Out of three of us we saw 7 bucks and harvested 5 out of Pende Oreille and Bonner counties.  Good luck and get into a spot at 6 am and sit still near a trail.  They're movin' around until around 8 am.

Two of our bucks were around 5 years old and from 225 to 250#s.

Alot of 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 yr old bucks, lost alot of the older bucks last year, nothing like yrs past around here for big bucks hitting the ground know of 2 all year archery kills that were around 170 and thats it, bad year, seen only 1 rifle kill that was exceptional, lost alot of deer last year, next year looks promising if winter isnt brutal

Talked to one of the guys still at camp last night and he said the rut is kickin in to high gear. There are scrapes everywhere you look but nothing moving during the day yet. Still no deer down, and today is the last day. He also talked to a game warden that stopped by camp and the gw said he had talked to approx. 200 hunters and seen only 5 deer taken.

As a side note, the Emperess of our camp was walking an old road and she saw a Grizzly walk onto the road in front of her (less than 100yds). He stood on his hind legs and she turned and went back to camp (she was less than 300 yds from camp). Her husband and cousin went up there later but all they found was a pile of Emperess sh*t.

Figures the rut would really kick in when I had to quit the season and go back to work.  Always happens that way in one form or another.  Not a total loss, but not a deer I would normally want to take, but decided on the meat at the end of Sunday.

Congrats! With the number of bucks seen this year by everyone I'd say you did fine. At least were eating venision instead of tag soup

Good job DeKuma. I had a spike in my sights on Saturday and if I had been given a better shot I'd have gladly taken him. Things were tough and you got meat in the freezer.

We stuck it out in one general area because there was lots of rut sign. We had lots of rubs and 3 or 4 scrapes that were being freshened every night. We were sitting on the trail between the rubs and the thick stuff before daylight in the morning and until after dark every night but never did see the buck that made the scrapes moving. Thought it would be better to work where we knew there was a buck instead of moving around all over hell trying to find one. So long story short, where we were, that buck was rutting heavy, just no does around to draw him out it seemed.

Next time set up a decoy or two and spray it down with doe estrous.  Be super carefull though.  You don't want to be in the line of fire if someone shoots at your decoy.

i was in springdale area and saw 3 white tail bucks in 2 days morniings, 1 was a 7 point my brother took it , 1 was a 10 point i wanted to take it but it was on private prop. i tried calling him out but wouldnt come and other wasa 2 point, i went scounting higher for next years mule hunt and saw 6 mule bucks,

I think you might be from the East coast.  A 10 point is extremely rare.  Was it a 5x5.  Otherwise that was some specimen.  I'd love to see one.

yea it was a 5x5 i add up all the antlers but i think it may had more i only counted what i could see my brother said he may have some more on him but he went behind a tree and couldnt tell , im not from east coast, this was a huge white tail i couldnt believe my eyes

Well for me it was the worst deer hunting in 30 years.  I hunted hard between Springdale and Hunters and in 12 days of hunting I saw a doe and a yearling.    I have gone a day or two in years past without seeing a deer but never 10 straight days, I'm completly shocked.  I did not see near the sign I normally do, did find a couple of scrapes and a couple of rubs.  I did not scout as much this year so stuck to areas I have had good luck in the past few years and nothing.  I'm wore down to a frazzle.  Hopefully the late archery elk will go a little better!!  I spoke to another guy and he hunted for 10 days and saw three bucks, but no does at all.

wow 30 years than i must have done good for hunting as a first in that area and first time hunting white tail, i saw 3 bucks in 2 days, and only 4 does, one of the bucks my brother took and another buck was a big boy he was mine BUT he was on private property
