Got word from the guys who returned from camp yesterday. We had a total of 10 hunters in camp this year (for varying lengths of time) and we tagged one three point.

We did see 13 elk - including a nice 6x6 - 1 moose, and 1 grizzly but none of them taste very good on the hoof.

Hope next year is better.

This has been one of the worst hunting season we have had in awhile over here for whitetails, just from reading everyones posts and the people I have talked too.The late archery season started and it has by far been the worst opening 4 days I have ever had since I began bowhunting 17 yrs ago.Talked to quite a few locals in the archery store and all have had similiar complaints, just a lack of deer.Mica is much better my dad is hunting it and seeing quite a few bucks, but nothing over the 110 mark, but 1. I have seen a spike, fork horn and a handfull of does, did pass on a 130 5x5 on the first evening, might be kicking myself at the end of the year ,but oh well, cant tag a hawg by shooting a lesser deer. ;)

I have the same to report. I've hunted the same ridge on private property in the Huckleberry unit every year since 1977. This was the worst year I can ever remember.

I hunted every legal minute of four days and was at my stands each morning well before dawn. My daughter, a skilled and patient hunter hunted the same way for two days.

Between us we saw ZERO whitetails, not one. Not a flag, not a snort, not a thump-thump-thump of a spooked deer. Usually, we see multiple deer each day.

The landowner believes that coyote depredation has been a big factor in addition to the harsh winter last year.

I wouldnt blame coyotes, always coyotes around, dont have winters like that every year, well not since 1949 had we had a winter snow accumulation of that amount. I would venture to say 40%-60% of the deer were lost in most areas and some reports in extreme NE Wa and pend orielle county lost up to 80% of the deer.

Yes there is always yotes, but they mostly only have us as predators to them.  When the snow becomes deep and if it crust they become a big problem!  I have seen them run together like wolves and they become a killing machine.  You can point your finger at the bad winter but that only helps the predators, when they got allot of food they are only going to multiply, kinda a snowball affect.  So do your part get out and smoke you some yotes this year! :twocents:
