During some years, April 15th is iffy. Due to weather, gobblers don't get hot until later. At least that has been my experience. Some years I see turkeys moving around looking for love. A couple of years ago, the turkeys I saw were not interested at the opener. Ten days later, they were interested. I have collected phone numbers of locals over the years and
I call them to get a sense of where the turkeys are from a "HOT" standpoint.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

Yep, I was gobbling at wintering groups of turkeys in Dec/Jan and they would gobble right back.

Yep just honk the horn and had 30 plus gobblers blow off gobblez all at once. Quite the orchestra if I do say so.
