Bison hunt options
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:00:00 PM »
Toying with the idea of a bison hunt this year.

Looking for a good value - I know this will be more of a shoot than a hunt and if I need to drop 5k then I'll sock that away to out towards the next run to Africa.  Needs to be in WY, SD, or southern MT.

would love some meat, but mostly interested in a mount to be honest. Love the idea of having one on the wall.

anyway, found this place that looks reasonable in price but have not heard of them before.

Anyone out there know of a good ranch?

Bearpaw does hunts in Montana.

Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Rob the Shoulder Mount Bison on my website was killed on the Mickelson Ranch.

www.michellenelsontaxidermy.com

It was a monster.  It used the second largest form on the market.

The guy that brought him to me is a Lawyer and had nothing but good things to say about them.

Don't go on a trophy Bull hunt right now.  They are starting to shed and are rolling, rubbing, and scratching.  You run a good chance of killing a bull with a sub par cape.  On a big bull they can be hard to find.  I would wait and go between Late November thru Mid January.

In SD you might be alright in October.  Hair might not be as long.  Though the later in October the better.
