2013 mount back. Again disappointed!
« on: February 19, 2014, 08:56:13 PM »
So first off I wanted a full upright with a strong right turn. I pointed to a form on the wall and was consistently urged towards a diff one that the taxi suggested we should use and he could cut and reposition the head at the angle I wanted. Needless to say its far from what I wanted as the head is looking up and the antlers are tipped back. So frustrated as I have a whitetail mount that I hate also cause its head and antlers are tilted way back.
also if you look at where the head on the form was cut and repositioned its all bulged out like it was in the rut. This is a Sept archery deer.

Really nice buck though  I never think they turn out that great with a hard turn but that might just be me.

Is that the velvet buck you didn't like in the background?  Did the same taxidermist do all your mounts?

If you don't like 3 of the 4 why are you still using that taxidermist?  How much are you paying?  If I am unhappy with one I will not use that taxidermist again.  Find a good taxidermist and stick with them.  Not bashing...just curious of why you would stay with a taxidermist that you are not happy with their work...

I guess it depends on who does the work. :dunno:

Nice buck MXRacer, can you take it back and ask for it to be reworked?

huntnphool yours does look real good. For a turn in it.But your head is alot lower and not as hard of a turn to it.Turning the head alomost to a 90 instead of a 45 takes a really good taxi.I dont know what im talking about i never have the money to do head mounts i always have to buy antler kits and do it myself. :twocents:

See this here is more like what I was expecting only with the head in the upward alert position. Basically like the form in the background.  The bulging in the neck just looks like crap imo.
rework id say is out of the ? After this last go around.

Really? I would argue this one is turned even harder than the OP's. :twocents:

To me a good taxidermist has to be an even better artist.  Anyone with enough practice and training can put a dear mount together....but only a true artist can make it look lifelike.  I would have left your taxidermist three mounts ago.  The old saying....screw me once shame on you...screw me twice shame on me.  Well you are on round three so the only person to blame is you.  (Again...Not trying to be a butt head, just stating the facts).  It is really hard to have sympathy for someone who has made the same mistake over and over.

My taxidermist makes all the decisions for me as fare as a mount goes.  I give him some parameters and then I turn him loose.  I very rarely will ever pick the exact pose / manikin because I am looking at a magazine.  He has actually placed hands on and knows how things are going to work.  I have never been disappointed with my current taxidermist.  His work is down right amazing.

I wish you luck on your future taxidermy work and for the record....all your bucks are great bucks.

625 for that work seems steep . you should have Elkstuffer take a look at it for you (all that's wild taxidermy ) in Natches.

An mature buck will have muscle tone year around, they aren't all skinny necks in September so I'm not sure I'd blame him on that part. A good taxi can take a form and alter it without anyone ever knowing, my taxi can do some amazing things

I had a 3x5 muley done by a west side taxidermist and the ears are the opposite of what we agreed on and the paperwork proved it. After a serious discussion and him apologizing I learned to live with it.
A couple years later, dumb me took a big muley buck in to him and this time took a few pics cut from magazines and we had a thorough discussion leaving no stone unturned. When he called and I got there to pic it up I had another deer with ears wrong according to our agreement.
As for getting it 're worked'? Good luck making a taxidermist do anything he doesn't want to do. I finally just told him where to go and also let hime know that he'd never get a referral from me and even worse if anyone asked. I've never gone back to him and have been very happy with a few other taxidermist since then.

:sry: Get a hold of Mike White @ Natures Way over here on the west side. Its a trip for you but he remounted a BT for another member that had it worse off than you and the results were outstanding! Very nice buck, it's not a hideous mount but not exactly the best either. Good luck!!
Shut up and Hunt!
