These cougar infestations have got me thinking. Sooner or later an unarmed kid just like one of those two is going to be attacked by one of these hungry cats and hurt or killed. Wouldn't a parent of such be eligible to sue the state for NOT being responsible enough to control these cats? Don't the bio's think they're over populated in this state yet? There obviously is too many for the habitat and they need to let us hound hunt them and drive them back in the hills. I know common sense defies logic again

That has happened before in NE WA and that is what led to the 5 year cougar pilot program that we used to have. The problem is that an anti-hunter WSU professor and Conservation Northwest are dictating cougar management in WA.

That's been going on for years,  but ya it'll accelerate as game dies off in wolf areas.

I can name two kids off the top of my head that's been attacked by MT Lions,  make that three kids within a 2 hour drive.

I just hope we see a hound season of some kind soon ...The idiots who make these laws need to crawl out of there hole and start managing wildlife the way it was intended to be managed ..Again there is to much government for the country folks ...Maybe they should just stay in the city and keep playing on the computer and forget about making laws to protect wildlife which they have no clue about doing !!!!

It is truly amazing what one cat can kill in a year.  25-50 deer a year is very broad and I would say is off by a lot.  During the spring I have seen where a cougar was killing a calf elk every other day.  Pretty crazy!

Don't think I would let those kids out sledding and having fun until I wasn't seeing anymore tracks around. That is scary stuff.

I heard from a reliable source on average it's one deer a week. They usually only eat the tender morsels and move on. Anyone who has owned a cat has watched them kill for the fun when they're not even hungry.

Infestation update

The kids got home from school today and the red heeler stsrted barking like crazy.  Their dad looked out the window and there stood another cougar right behind the pickup 50 feet from the house.  Shelby 11 was the only one left with a tag so grabbed a gun and blasted it.  It appeared to be an older female but extremely skinny.  The dad said this doesnt look like the one he ran off last night at 2:30 AM.  So in the last 2 weeks 4 cougars have been killed on the one ranch that were causing trouble.  They think there is one more close by.
