Need to ask for some help.
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:45:59 PM »
I got a new puppy at the end of this season that I intend to train to be my new duck dog, and I forgot to save a wing. Does anyone happen to have a duck wing from this season they would be willing to give a guy to work with his dog? If so I would greatly appreciate it!

This was her when we first got her.

This is her(and my red heeler) now.

I'd give you one if I had one. You can buy packaged pheasant wings at Sportsman's Warehouse. Not sure if they have duck as well. Dogs still go bananas over them. Cute pup!

I have some hen pheasant wings that are yours if you want them. They're still attached by the way. I work in Spanaway.

So I'm new to training dogs for hunting. Does it matter what kind of wing it is?

If it doesn't matter I will take them. It'll at least be somewhere to start.

I think at the stage your pup is at it wouldn't matter much. You're just trying to add a bit of realism to the retrieving play and getting her used to feathers in the mouth probly anyway. I'll save 'em for you. PM me and we'll figure out how to get 'em to you.

I have 2-3 duck wings in the freezer, I could give you one or two. I live in Seattle near UW and work in Bothell. LMK.

you live pretty close to me, i dont hunt ducks, but i have a big swamp/lake that you could come kill a duck at, then you would have a whole duck to toss around for the puppy  also if you are doing the training i would hit up sakotshooter and get some pointers from him, his dogs are nothin short of miracles, i have been around some top notch dogs before but his are are a cut above any i have ever seen, it is sooooo friggin cool to watch them work

If you ever come over to the east side of the state I have a duck or two you could have. Make sure every year you save a couple ducks no matter how old your dog is. Also nice to let them retrieve real ducks during the off season

That's good to know about keeping some each year. I actually do make it over to the easy side every 3 or 4 months. I have family in the tri cities.

Head over to the bird dog section of this site...  lots of guys there that should be willing to help out.  That said, if you're ever on the Eastside, PM me and I can give you some frozen birds.
