First bear stories.
« on: October 20, 2008, 02:59:08 PM »
My first bear I was above the n fork Mashel river,in a very steep drainage.I5 yrd was as far as ya could see.Iwas calling and could hear something coming down towards me,but couldnt see any movement. My heart was pounding my whole body was in alert mode, and worried, mode and a little scared sh%$#ess mode also.I could see something now just patches though so thick,I knew it was a bear. The bear started a low vibrating kind of a moan, all new to me.which really tightened the pucker mode.searching for any sight or shot all of a sudden from behind me and to my left, about 3 feet a bear limped right past me,I gasped and he  spun around around and put his front legs on an old growth log,and stared at me,This was about 15 feet.I dumped that bear on the spot.As soon as the shot rang,I could hear brush breaking above him.the other bear leaving. The bear I shot was a dog bear very skinny looked like a lab .I wondered why he was limping ,while gutting him I found he had been shot through the gut, before he got to me.I packed the whole bear on my packframe. When I got back to camp there was an older guy there that said he shot a bear in the road and it rolled him over.Iasked where he shot it?  he told me in the draingage across from me.It was the bear he shot.I figured he went down to water then came up to the call ,hard to say.It is still the smallest bear Ive taken 120lbs,that bear was three yrs old. but he will always be my first and fondest memory.

Hey Rasbo, kinda old for hunt'in bears aren't you?  I enjoyed your short story.  Have you ever thought of keeping a record of your hunt'in stories for your grandsons?  Gotta pass it on.  Enjoyed your story; don't stop.
