Here are the proposed changes to the big game hunting rules.
https://fishandgame.idaho.gov/content/webform/panhandle-proposals-2014-big-game-seasons
They are proposing to take away the July training season for bear in units 4, 4a and 6. If you run dogs in Idaho or ever plan to please fill out a comment in the section provided voicing your opposition to that change. We need all the opportunity to train that we can get. They say we can just go down to units 7 and 9. That's a long ways to go if you live in unit 1 just to train dogs. Not only that but most of 9 is designated roadless and both are full of wolves. Lets get this stopped.

Idaho guy
I agree, there are plenty of large tracts of land to hunt on. Hopefully we can get this stopped and maybe add some more opportunity. There's a meeting this Thursday. Here's the info on when and where.

Makes no sense, they want to increase harvest but stop hound training season.

Idaho Guy,
I live in Spokane Valley. I've hunted up the river for years so we may have met at some point. I am usually in the steamboat and Laverne areas. I should be able to make the meeting as well. Hope to see you there.
Bearpaw,
Yea it makes no sense to limit our training and then say they want to increase the harvest. I think we need to stress that if we are chasing the bears in July, the bears will have less chance to kill elk calves. Ultimately that is what IDFG cares about and we need to show where chasing bears will help calf recruitment. We should also talk about how chasing the bears will help keep a healthy fear of man and dogs in the bears during camping season, thus helping to deter problem bear encounters. I think these talking points will help sway the commission to our side.

Another point is that "there is no biological reason to reduce hound training opportunity".
