BAITING BEARS?
« on: March 14, 2014, 06:45:45 AM »
if this thread needs to be put in the bear forum, i completely understand, i was just hoping to get more answers on the virtual side  my question is: does anyone happen to know if baiting bear is legal in montana? i ask because cameron, he is like my son, goes to college at montana western, him and his girlfriend who is from montana, like to hunt but have never looked into bear huntn, they are here in washington for spring break.. i asked if they had thought about baiting but they had no clue if it was legal, so the best place to check is right here, even if we are washintonians

I don't think it is legal in Montana but I'm not 100% sure.  I think Montana has some pretty funny laws when it comes to that stuff.  I don't think baiting deer is legal there either or having game cams out during the season :dunno:.  Best bet would be to call the Montana fish and game office.

Not legal.

You could type in Montana Fish and Game into your computer and get the regulations a whole lot faster than waiting for responses on a forum. You will also get the correct answer the first time

http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/regulations/

Black bear 2014

Baiting
• It is illegal for anyone to hunt or attempt to hunt by the aid of or with the use of
any bait, salt lick, trap, snare or set gun.
• Baiting shall mean the placing, exposing, depositing, distributing, or scattering
of food sources or salt so as to constitute a lure or attraction.

Of course you now have the answers, the regulations web link and the truth, so how could I be correct? :dunno:

you got that right, i sure miss it, it was to me as much fun as huntn with hounds :'( half the time i didnt even shoot a bear, it was soooo much fun just watchn them at the bait site, especially if mama bear had a couple cubs with her, mama is all stressed out and the baby bears are just screwin around, wrestlin, climbn trees, makin a bunch of noise, while mama bears ulcer just got bigger and bigger  :chuckle: it also helped so called bear experts keep from shooting cubs  :dunno: or a sow with cubs. it happens alot these days, i havent bear hunted since they took baiting away  thanks for all the info fellas, there is a reason i asked on this forum instead of punchn up montana huntn fishn .com  :chuckle:
