Do you draw stick figures or are you an arteest?

Did you put in for Spring Bear this year Rad?  Isn't it like a one in every 20 years thing for you?

So I write myself a note.....

1. Buy hunting licences Friday after work
2. Buy spring bear application
3. Wait by computer for drawing

Lost the note, forgot to get hunting licence... :bash: :bash: :bash:

Maybe next year...

The note wouldn't have done you any good. It doesn't say "Submit" application.

Point taken..... Memory is so bad, I'd have went through the motions and still not got-r-done. :dunno:

Successful applicants notified by email this morning.  Permits for successful applicants and cards to unsuccessful applicants will be mailed Friday.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Did you put in for Spring Bear this year Rad?  Isn't it like a one in every 20 years thing for you?

I contacted the director a few years ago.  He swore there is no longer a "Black List" now that S..itch is gone.  A couple days later I get an email saying, "Wow, that's a lot of 'Not Drawn".  I've gotten a cow tag, deer tag and a spring bear tag since then!  I'm feeling pretty good that I am no longer on the "S..itch List".  Probably not going to be as lucky as Carp, but who knows :dunno:  At least I don't feel as though it will be another 20 years.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Well that's good

It'd be cool if you drew again so you could use the bow on one this year

Well that's good

I passed on three last year I could have easily shot while I was carrying the bow.  One bald sow with a cub (Oooo so ugly with no hair), one sow with three cubs, and then one loner that might have tipped the scales at about 75#.  Got within 25 yards of all of them.  I also got charged by a 15# cub...That was exciting!  He seemed upset when I just stood there at about three yards said, "You're kidding me, Right!"  :chuckle:

Was a tough year hunting by myself in Aladdin last year.  I just couldn't find a mature boar anywhere.  So when Dale had some free time and said he knew where a good boar was that two guys had already missed I didn't think twice before grabbing the 325 Kimber Montana.

BTW - Hunting with Dale is a blast!  We killed a nice boar, solved the worlds problems and laughed till my gut hurt.  What a fun guy to spend a few days with.  Definitely worth it for you successful NE spring bear hunters!

That is so awesome, I can't wait to draw spring bear one year.

I really am hoping to draw a NE unit this spring, I saw a bunch last May and several that would have made me happy to shoot.

I have spoken to several people who hunted 101, 108 and 117 for spring bear and never saw one   :yike:  I think people don't know how to hunt bears if they can't find one in those units.

I believe the key in spring is to cover a lot of ground.  Doesn't matter if you are walking or driving the more ground you cover the better IMO.  Dale had helped us isolate areas that routinely held bear when the Squaw got her tag a few years ago.  I added another dozen or so spots we saw sign in that year.  I spent the whole day driving close and then walking for an hour or so.  Then back to the truck and on the next spot.  Get out and walk, rinse repeat, rinse repeat for the whole day.  Big surprise every bear I saw last year was within 100 yards of where Dale said it would be.

I saw a lot of sign last year in the other areas I had found on my own, but no bear.  It's a nice place.  Almost no cell coverage so nobody can bother you.  Very relaxing!  And a whole bunch of grouse, coyote, moose and deer to see.  A ton of ground squirrels too!  I brought my 22 mag but kept forgetting to ask Dale if it was legal or not so never got a chance to play.

Place is absolutely loaded with stupid turkeys too.  So get your turkey tags if you go up there.  I could have killed at least one tom a day WITH MY BOW if I hadn't already tagged out on the opener.
