Harrington&Richardson Break Actoin .308
« on: February 23, 2014, 12:06:17 PM »
I have an H&R Break action .308 that my younger brother uses. He and I both love it, although, after a few rounds of shooting the firing pin doesn't strike hard enough and it will misfire. We were double checking his scope last year before deer season and after about 10 rounds it would misfire every time. Is there anyway to tell what the issue is? We were using crappy ammo, so I grabbed a few reloaded rounds, and a box of some other stuff that was pretty good (can't remember what it was) and the same thing happened. ANy thoughts?

Does it have a hammer extension on it?

Remove it and try again. Also I think if you look online you'll see heavier hammer springs for them. It doesn't sound like much but I know with my Encores if you're going to use a hammer extension, the guys in the know say a heavier hammer spring is a must-do. Same concept with the H&R.

:yeah: Spot on. I have a 243 and the only time it ever gave me any troubles is when I added a hammer extender on it. I would guess that might be your problem. If it has been on there the whole time and it's just doing it now. You might have a warn or busted hammer spring. Lastly it could be warn or damaged firing pin.
