17 WSM
« on: February 23, 2014, 07:29:48 PM »
Anyone have any experience or know about savages and winchester's new 17 WSM (Winchester super mag). Looking into getting something like this. I know the 17 HMR is a pretty sweet round just wanting something a little different.

Use the search function.  Been discussed a few times.  Also you may want to Google savage rifles on the subject.

Haven't seen the WSM or shot one.I do know I wouldn't trade my savage .17 for anything. It's a tack driver within reasonable range.

If someone made a decent gun, and somebody else but Winchester made the ammo, it might turn into a good choice.  Otherwise, I think it will follow the 5mm Remington into oblivion...  :twocents:

Looks like a nice round.  I only recently learned about the round from a friend after I purchased my Ruger American.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Putting the Boyds stock on it should make it better.  That Savage stock is a joke.  You shouldn't have to spend a bunch of money to restock a new gun.  A shooter told me that he bought a WSM when they first came out, and his exact words were:  "I couldn't sell that thing fast enough!"  :twocents:

They should of made it a bull barrel with a nicer stock and sold it for $350 with a scope package....

Just putting a better stock on it would have made it a better gun.  You put a .17 caliber hole in a regular barrel, and it almost IS a bull barrel!  :chuckle:

Close, but the barrel isn't any bigger than a yellow pencil with a hole in the end.

Wow--that is small.  Never seen one myself, so I'm just guessing.  From what I was told, the main complaint was the flimsy stock.  :dunno:

The forend of the stock seems flimsy and cheap. Thin feeling. Kinda hard to 'splain unless you hold it.
