The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.

Enjoy your time at the range and stay safe.

Fishncliff, so who do we blame when a family never references a gun as a toy and their child kills someone with one? How about the parents for not educating their children about guns? Well?

Yes we blame the gun owner for not being responsible.

To blame a single post on the internet with possibly causing an accident is a bit too simplistic don't ya think?

Kids occasionally do really stupid stuff, no matter what you teach them, or say in front of them. I would not think for a second to blame a post on the internet as potentially reducing the safety and well being of youth in general.

Didn't blame a post. I simply said--stop using this term , for this reason.

A guy drops a chunk of change on a high end purchase of any kind will often refer to it as his new "toy" as you well know. If it was a car would you complain? Heck, the kids may grow up and drive recklessly and injure or kill someone. Same concern?

Yep. We had this post on H/W asking for people to slow down, http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,147316.0.html.

Didn't see anyone on there bloviating about how they know how to drive blah blah blah.

Wonder why that is.

Seems the bigger issue is the lack of respect for one mans opinion.  Though I don't agree with fishncliff stance, I refuse to berate his opinion.  For all parties who continually bash another member and throw the term "TOY" in his face...you should be ashamed.  State your opposition and let it be.  Don't forget we are all sportsman here, lets show a little respect.

Seems the biggest issue here is fishincliff jumped into the OP's thread berating him for his choice of words.  That was not appropriate and he wouldn't acknowledge it, but instead continued to argue for his point.

To the OP - nice new toy man!!

Remember folks.. Many English words have more than one meaning.

From Merriam Webster: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/toy

toy noun \ˈtȯi\

: something a child plays with

: something that an adult buys or uses for enjoyment or entertainment

: something that is very small

I think a simple request in good taste (maybe via pm), for a person to refrain from a particular reference for good reason, should be exercised when a person has a strong feeling about a subject. I would encourage that 'reason' to be in the original post of that request though. Not including it, will most assuredly prompt unwanted responses. If that request is public, expect a bit of feedback.

I am an adult. I have many toys that my children didn't touch until they were of age and had demonstrated responsibility that rewarded them opportunities to play with big boy toys.

I hope that .308 Savage shoots really well. I hope that some day that rifle is used in the teaching of progressing youth in long range shooting and hunting. Until then, steel plates at 800yds should be the norm.
