smallest buck ever!
« on: August 30, 2007, 10:08:02 PM »
I know we all love to see the monsters. But come on this has to be the smallest buck you have ever seen. I was going through my pictures when I came across this one. I took it in twisp last year. Not what I want to see when bow hunting this year.

I've got a few of those.  I even ate one one year.   It was one of those alfalfa fed Twisp bucks.  Damn tasty but didn't do much for the wall of fame.

Check out the three point or better thread...might be in the poll section.  I posted some pics of some barely legal horn porn.

Nope, not the smallest. A buddy of mine shot a spike one year that went about 1.5".  :dunno:

A couple of years ago my son and I were hunting grouse up the Whynoochee drainage, we saw two of the smallest bucks I have laid eyes on, playing king of the mountain on an ant hill. Both were forkies, probably twins, I could have picked one up in each hand. Seriously they could not have weighed more then 50 lbs each on the hoof. After a week in Winthrop those two looked un-naturally small.

Yeah, definitely a little guy.

I stopped by a guy's house near Colville last year that had several 3-point whitetail racks (excluding eyeguards) that would fit in the palm of your hand...like a 6-inch outside spread.  Wonder if those were just really really poor genetics, or just 1 1/2 year bucks that grew a third tine?  Didn't have the bodies around, so don't know anything about the body size, face, etc.  Was just strange to see three tines on such a small frame.

the body size of my tiny deer was average...not overly small anyway. on his right side he had 2 points plus a browtine, on his left side he had 3 points and no brow.
if i had to make a call, i would say poor genetics...it certainly was not for a lack of food/vitamins/etc...he was living in wheat/crp country with plenty of water to be had.

I was just re-reading this thread and remembered the smallest bodied buck I'd ever seen...a spike coues whitetail my buddy shot during January's archery season in AZ.  Any coues buck with a bow is a trophy...but let's just say he's a stickpole of a guy and picked this thing up with one hand by it's hind feet.  Rabbit style.   :chuckle:

Smallest I've seen was a buck fawn whitetail my buddy steve killed - had sharp, bare bone spikes about 7/8" long.  It was a mercy killing - it had a wire snare cinched tight around it's head, from a fenceline coyote set I suspect.  The fact that he did a good thing did not keep us from razzing him!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
