Wood Sheds lets see them
« on: February 25, 2014, 09:28:03 AM »
I currently stack firewood along my fence line, and have thought about buliding a wood shed that is 16 feet long and 4 feet wide.  I am looking for any ideas at the moment, and if you have any pictures that you can post it would help

Tag, me too.

Currently I stack firewood on pallets and cover with tarps along the fenceline, but I want something more permanent and that looks a little better.

Also...  do you guys stack firewood to season, or leave it in a pile to season?  I currently stack as I split it, and I stack it 3 deep.  The middle row seems to have a tendency to mold a little, not enough airflow.  Anyone else run into this?
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

I also stack and split, but its not always the middle that gets mold, its usually near the bottom on each row.

I have left it in a pile but usually stack it. Stacking keeps it cleaner it seems

If I build one like that, do you think the water runoff would cause issues for my neighbor on the other side of the fence?

Put some gutters on it if runoff is an issue.

Just run a gutter across the back and down spout back to into your yard or into a rain water barrel for garden use..
You can get free gutter off craigslist, or ask one of the gutter anti clogging places for some they have removed.
*
I have one that is 6ftx6ftx7ft tall (2 cords) and am build another kinda like the one pictured that is 16ftx6ftx6ft (actually 7ft front to 6ft rear) so 4.5 cords or more. I use the clear plastic panels for the roof and have had no problems.
All the wood i get from eastern wa i season over there so when i bring it home it is ready to burn so just tarped it does not mold, if i cut wood on the wetside and tarp just the top it will mold in the middle or along the bottom rows, if i put it under the cover it wont mold.
Someone metioned rats, only way to stop them is to get rid of them, if you have rats around and a wood pile you just made them a nice safe home (for awhile atleast)... :twocents:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.
