From what I hear, it will take 4 to 5 years to get drawn for deer in MT anyway.  By that time I might be able to find some land to hunt on...

not sure about the 4 or 5 year gig as it depends on how lucky you are. Some guys draw every year, and if you know someone that has land then go with the landowner sponsored one but then you must only hunt on their property. That will up your odds.
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

Hmmm... good to know.  Thanks for the advice.  I am going to try an antelope hunt there this fall (if I can get drawn-better odds than deer, I hear).  If I can get permission for antelope somewhere, and I don't put a bullet through the guy's barn, maybe I can talk him into deer hunting another year...

I've had very good luck getting drawn for Montana the last few years. If I didn't get drawn I applied on the alts. list and got my tags that way. Being drawn from the alts list worked out better for me as I didn't lose my points and I received my buck tag :IBCOOL:.
Also you don't need to hunt private land to bag a nice buck. My Buck was taken on BLM, also there is alot of block management areas in Mont.

it was a good year for my family. my wife and son both started hunting this season. my son shot a whitetail with a massive body but a small rack and my wife shot a nice little whitetail. i shot a buck with 4 horns, i posted it on here last week.{ and i shot 2 bear but that is another story. }the best part of this season was sharing hnting with my family. they have always been outdoors with me and have seen me shoot stuff but to get them into it was great. they are both very excited for next year.

Congrats Dad!  No feeling in the world like seeing the youngsters take their first.  Man, that thing does have a body like a hefer, doesn't it?
