remington 700 xcr II in 375 h&h. anyone have one or shot one?
« on: February 27, 2014, 08:18:54 AM »
Im kicking around the idea of buying a 375 and came across this one. Its about the cheapest in the h&h chambering but I am concerned that it is so lightweight that it may kick very hard. I have shot a win model 70 safari 375 and found it to be not too bad recoil wise. I am going to use this for a brush gun for elk and hear hunting. I will not put a brake on this gun.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
also I really dont care about crf.

I was in the same train of thought not to long ago. I talked to the firearm buyer at Sportco. He had the xcr, headspacing was messed up, sent it back and shot it a few times but then sold it. was a little light for caliber. I looked and held the browning that Welchers in Tacoma had, light and wasn't to impressed. Seemed light for caliber. So I ended up getting a CZ safari magnum for 972.00 through bellevue based Lowpriceguns. Fit me and weight was there. This caliber is old school like me. CZ has folding express BIS in 100,200.300 and a hooded front. I ordered a 3x big bore scope with a German #4 from the Leupold custom shop and added alaskan arms QD mounts to have the best of both worlds. The CZ does have a high bolt lift and it is controlled round feed mauser type action. You might look at the Winchester also. To me the ultimate would be the SAKO Kodiak Magnum in 375 h&h, but at around 1875.00. Do a little research on prices, Gallery of guns ( they had them on sale when I bought mine), Buds Guns, Guns America ect. Wish you could see the deep tone of my turkish walnut CZ. Good luck on your quest.

Thanks lucky. I definitely want some heft for recoil reduction and I also feel they are a bit steadier offhand. I've got the go ahead from the powers that be to commence shopping so I am looking now. The only one I have shot is a winchester mod 70 safari amd I fell in love. Ill keep looking.

The Remington 700 Classic in the H&H is a well balanced mid weight rifle that shoots well. Especially with the "Classic" straight comb stock. Shot bear and Elk with one for 4 or 5 years. Sold it to a recoil sensitive type that didn't keep it long.

That 100TH CDL is one sexy rifle, love the barrel band. They seem to hold their value, I paid 600.00 for mine way back. Found one at Cabela's for 1K. :o. I see them pop up on GunsAmerica here and there. Might want to check GunBroker. They are great rifles, I use to slum the 300gr Hornady BT interlocks, of course that was before the Accubonds . Just for fun I called and shot several coyotes with the combo and open sights.

The Alaskan is cool.

I picked up a Ruger M77 Hawkeye Guide Gun in the 375 Ruger for $840.00. Mounting a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36mm with the Boone & Crocket reticle using Alaskan Arms QD scope rings. That way in the brush I will use the express sights on the rifle and longer more open shots then I will mount scope on rifle..
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

I am thinking of adding a vortex viper hs 2.5-10 x44 on this. Good field of view and power range. I ordered the scope today. Found dies and brass this week too. Ordered some overrun ammo on shooters pro shop. Cant wait to shoot it!
