Mathews is doing much better meeting the correct specs for draw llength and speed. Since 2012 their bows have met their rating, or come very close, and draw lengths are no longer the old 3/4" long mathews standard. All the newer mathrws bows ive set up and tuned have been around 1/4" long, with the longest being 3/8" long. Which is about average for all brands. All im saying is mathews makes a very quality bow that shoots great and caters to certain people, just like every brand on the market. Sure mathews hasnt done much new in the past 5 years, but with the exception of the carbon risers and bowtechs od binaries, neither has anybody else. If this guy shoots a Mathews and likes it thats all that matters, and nobody should tell him that Mathews isnt any good because it simply isnt true.
Sorry if I derailed the thread, I guess ive been on archery talk too long and am sick of all the brand superiority crap. :chuckle:

I just got my Chill R at Fletcher Setter for 750 bucks..he's got a lot of bows to choose from and he's a very nice guy.
[/quote.. that's a heck of deal.. congrats on the new bow
Looking at the Heli, Creed, and Maybe Chill. Although the Chill I'm a little concerned that the speed will compromise accuracy.

In the ChillR maybe a small amount, but in the original Chill accuracy should be easier to maintain than most.  It's a very easy bow to shoot.  And that cam system is extremely nice!  Same speed you would see in the Heli and a much easier bow to shoot.  Creed does feel good in the hand when you shoot it.  Not surprised that's why you like it!  For the same money I'd take the speed and the sweet grip of the Chill.  Just my  :twocents:  You should be happy either way.
I will re-shoot these bows again to ensure I making the right choice. thanks for the feedback

Just curious.  Have you shot any of the hoyts or pse bows?  The Mathews I've tried in the last few years didn't feel as crisp as the hoyts or pse bows I've tried. Also what has you wanting to give up speed to go to a single cam?
No I haven't. I'm no expert on bows but I do feel the signal cams are plenty efficient. All my bows in the past have had two cams and it seemed  there was always timing issues. I just started shooting a few different models and kept coming back to Mathews

Don't let the older 2 cams enter your mind.  Way less issues with the new ones on the market.

You're right Jelly. If it feels good to him then that's what he should shoot. From what I've encountered most guys that shoot a mathews had there minds made up before they even shot one.  Rarely have they tried another brand.  Sounds like he tried a couple other bows so at least he didn't have tunnel vision.

No brand loyalty in my house.  I shoot a pse, my wife shoots a Martin, son shoots hoyt, and my daughter shoots Diamond.

You're definitely right about some shooters minds being made up ahead of time. I've seen guys that have never shot a bow in their life walk into a shop, say they want the mathews they saw on TV, and then refuse to try anything else!  :chuckle:

Was referring more to the pse.

Am I the only one that finds it funny when guys claim Mathews meet their speed rating? Or come in at their claimed draw length?

Well that's a different story all together :chuckle:  Most of the Mathews I've tested have met their speed ratings.  But that may be only because most have been half to three quarters long in length. ;)  Most single cam bows that used 8125 were all over the place in draw length.  Not sure anyone had the length right for a while.  I had a long talk with the guys at Zebra during the ATA this year.  They admitted quality control had gotten very loose in past years.  They claim that as of last year they've reinvested in quality control and materials.  From what I've seen in the more recent Mathews this seems to hold true.

Over the years Martin and PSE have probably had the biggest gaps between actual speeds and listed speeds.  Not sure many cared about PSE speeds not being accurate as they were still faster than most.  Interesting that PSE now gives an eight fps variance in listed speed.  That top end still seems quite the mystical creature.

Am I the only one who finds it funny when guys talk speed and Hoyt in the same post?  :chuckle:
hater.  I may only be shooting 300fps with only a 27" draw but really how fast does one need to shoot?  Speed isn't everything you know.

Nothing to do with being a hater.  Fact is Hoyts are below average in speed and above average in cost.  Nothing wrong with that if you like Hoyt bows.  But, so often Hoyt shooters want to school folks on speed which I find funny when they are slower than just about everyone else who makes a two cam bow.  Considerably slower than any other $1,000 two cam bow I've tested.

Most major companies reach Hoyt turbo speeds with 7" brace heights.  You are accomplishing the amazing by reaching 300 fps at 27" draw shooting a Hoyt.  You must hold your mouth just right!  I've never seen a Hoyt, even the turbo, reach 300 fps at 27" draw length shooting a 6 grain arrow.  70# and IBO arrows ok, but never a WA state legal hunting arrow.

I agree speed isn't everything.  Just ask nearly every Hoyt or Mathews shooter :chuckle:  But for me, if I'm going to spend the big bucks I want good performance and shootability.  6" brace heights aren't my answer to shootability.  Even if that's an acceptable compromise for the little people who shoot 27".  :tung:

Well I'm far from 6 grains per pound and shooting 300 more like 5grains per pound.  My hunting arrows go slow very slow.

Two bows with same specs will probably shoot two different speeds. Hence the gap in rating.  Or as the other company does use the phrase speeds up to... mine don't hit the top of the gap but its close. I haven't seen in person many bows that actually hit the top number out of the box. Which is how most shops send the bow out the door.  Now if you take the numbers you read on here you'd think most bows exceed their ibo by a good bit :)

Probably faster than when I was an eat, sleep, bleed Hoyt shooter.  I think I was about 235 back then.  Killed A LOT of critters back then!  Although I hunted nearly five months straight each year.  If I got a call anywhere in the US I was usually on my way to shoot something...Good Times!  Still not sure why I grew up, got married and started a business :chuckle:

:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: I expect the speed numbers on here are probably closer to reality than the average bear weight.

Drove to Fletch Setter today to re-shot the Creed XS and the Chill. Pretty happy with both bows however pretty sure I want the Chill.  Going to set it up with the QAD Ultra, 7 pin Spot Hogg, Sims stabelizer, wrist strap, and tight spot quiver. I liked Craig and thought he did a good job answering all of my questions. He offered the best deal out of the shops you guys recommended . $799 for bow and 10% off all accessories.

I still need to select arrows. was thinking a 340 spine and shooting for 450 grains. I shoot the Realtreee Beaman currently.. Was thinking about the Bone collectors... Any recommendations would be great. Also for you guys with more knowledge on archery accessories if you have any input on the ones I selected please advise

Great bow at a really dang good price!!!  Congratulations!

I'm not a huge fan of HIT inserts on anything but the FMJ. But I wouldn't talk a guy out of them if he liked the shafts.  In my opinion your accessories sound good.

My only question would be, "Why seven pins?"  With the speed you should see out of this bow a five pin would give you 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70.  For a hunting bow you really don't need a 20 anymore.  I see a lot of mistakes in the field with guys who shoot 7 pins.  And for me personally, I find seven pins a target panic nightmare.  However, once again I would not talk a guy out of it if that's what he liked.  Just pass along the word of caution.

I think you made a really good choice.  No excuses now!  I'm expecting a lot of dead animal pictures after this 2014 season from you.  :chuckle:

I was trying to make this same argument with my buddy that the first pin should be 30 not 20 because in reality they are so close.. I really want the spot hogg and didn't see the 5 pin... also consider the Montana gold 5 pin.. good point and I will need to be more aware")

Thanks for the feedback on the arrow.. I will do some more research...

I haven't bought a new since 05... I'm so excited and yes I'm hoping to clutter Hunt WA up with kills shots...")
