Ar15 scope recommendations

I'm almost done with my first build,  will be primarily a coyote gun. And now looking for a scope. I looked at a couple vortexes, including their red dot and was also looking at the Nikon tactical. Any reccomendations, a red dot seems kind of pointless to me. I think I'd prefer a real scope. Looking in the $200 range.

If you could swing the Mark AR they are pretty sweet with build in dials for bullet drop already included.
 
If you want to stay with the 200 budget I have a cross fire II that I like ok.

Nikon predator BDC Midway just had a sale for them for $200 either the 3x9 or 4x12, My Cuz and Bro in law use them and they work well. Ive shot a few dogs off them. Like the circles for the moving shots. With a little practice the circles work good for quick range estimation. There is better clearer glass out there for a little more money, I looked at some votex and they were damn clear for the $, I just really like using the BDC myself...

I'd say it depends a lot on how your going to hunt coyotes. 

If your calling I'd look for something with a huge FOV on the bottom end as most of your shots will be closer.  I like 1.5x6x40mm scopes on my bolt guns and 1x4x20mm on my combo guns.  4x-6x on the top end is more than enough for coyotes out to 300+ yards and the 60-90' FOV is really handy for those ones that appear at your shoelaces.

For targets of opportunity or really open grasslands, my choice is a 2.5x10x40mm, nearly double the X's on the top end for longer range shooting but still enough FOV for that one that used the lay of the land to sneak into 30 yards before you see him.  A 3x12 or 4x16 would work well if your comfortable with the narrower FOV on the bottom end.  A coyote is a pretty big target compared to a PD or GS where higher power scopes come in handy.

Personally for a coyote gun I'd stay away from adjustable turrets and parallax adjustments and go with a BDC reticle on a open country gun.  It is way to easy when your shutting down callers and picking up your gear to move to another stand to forget to set the adjustments on a scope back to your zero  KISS goes along way in coyote hunting.

I'd put a Diamondback on it. I've got the 4-12x40 with the dots if you want to check it out. Pretty sure they call it the dead hold reticle.
I think it's right in your budget.

Get on the Rock River website and look at their 1-piece scope mounts.  Sturdier than the DNZ ones, and the last one I got was $55.  They may be a bit more now.  They come in 2 different cantilevers, but I find the lesser cantilever style plenty good for my purposes.

Yep--them's the ones.  The top link is for the far-forward cantilever one.  mine are more like the lower link, but still enough of a cantilever for my use.  If Joebob's has them in stock, get it there!  You will only save a buck over RRA's price, but ordering stuff from RRA sometimes takes forever to ship...

I have DNZ mounts on some of my guns. You can get them for $60ish if you shop. They don't cost $150.

Nikon scopes are good scopes.  I have a few of them myself, and the free PEPR mount is a nice bonus.  Always thought the PEPRs were very overpriced, if you paid full bore... 

Including a free PEPR to sell the scope shows you where the economy is headed, and it doesn't bode well...

Thanks, I found them on optics planet? Do you have any experience with that particular mount? Do you think it will work well for a vortex diamondback 4-12x40 on an ar? Enough eye relief and height. Newbie at the ar thing so I'm not sure. I'd prefer the dnz their half the weight of the rock rivers and don't need lapping, heard the rock rivers required a ton of lapping to get right.

I have several RRA mounts, all are the regular cantilever and seem to have plenty of eye relief for me.  Maybe someone taller and lankier would need the more cantilevered model.  Height for an AR is good.  Never felt a need to "lap" a RRA mount, and could see no scope tube damage when I've changed scopes.  Don't know where that one comes from.  One thing I will agree with--they aren't light.  But then, they are made out of real metal, and they are sturdy.  I've knocked my gun over, and the scope hit rocks, and the zero didn't change.  I fell down a hillside and had to brush the dirt off the scope, and next time at the range, the zero didn't move.  I've ordered airgun scopes from Optics Planet, and their delivery is FAST!

Yeah, I hate not seeing them in hand. I might go take a look at the dnz's at outdoor emporium. Wish a local store had the rock river. I almost ordered the rock rivers today but they said 7-10 before they even ship them. Wish joe bob would have them back in stock

If they have to order them from Rock River before they can ship them, you might be standing there with your hand on your butt longer than 7-10 days...  .  My buddy swears by the P.E.R.P. mounts, but I've always thought they were overpriced.  If you see them for around $60, buy them!  Never used the DNZ's but they look good, and you can always change later if you don't like them.  Right now, getting anything is iffy...

Rock River has been real slow at shipping stuff out, but a call to them might speed things up.  Don't be surprised if you have to cancel.  They make good stuff, though.

Excellent!  I've used both two-piece and one-piece scope rings, and I must admit to preferring the one-piece mounts better!  Except in the case of my newest Benjamin Marauder airgun, where they say to "only" use two-piece mounts.

You were right about rock rivers shipping, it took them to there max estimate of 10 days to ship. but I will have them this week and can go sight in the gun Friday and kill coyotes saturday
