"Park officials rounded up and shot big game in the off season routinely to reduce numbers. So, there may be two sides to the story and I personally think that the reintroduction of wolves to YNP made it a more natural place. Not that I care, but the revenue from tons of wolf-watchers is huge."The revenue from allowing hunters to do that would have been huge as well!
Last year, I spoke with the drivers of two tour busses full of foreign tourists. Germany, France, etc. they both indicated that their tours (starting in Denver) had a focus of wolves and other wildlife in Yellowstone. The money is huge - and again, I don't care, but it is a factor.Overall, IMO, the park is a better place with wolves there than it was prior.People that need to drive up and see hundreds of semi-tame elk and buffalo may be better served by a zoo.
