Spring feeding
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:25:53 AM »
Found a dead buck along the driveway, pretty much cleaned up, coyote, raven, magpie, eagle joint venture, no signs of broken bones but a full rumen of COB.  If you must put it out use tiny amounts.  A full gut of COB on early spring rations = death.

You suspect the buck died from trail camera bait? Or people leaving food out for their livestock? I'm just trying to understand your post, thanks.

Found along a driveway, which I assume is near a road? Could it have been hit by a car?   :dunno:

Was not much left for good diagnosis. all are possible, no bone trauma, probably not a car.  Appeared to have died in his bed a few hundred yards from the highway.  A belly full of grain this time of year is a good chance of acidosis.  I suspect good intentioned people 'helping' the hungry deer.
New growth on antlers showing this week.  I know, where are the pictures.
