It's on sale at my local Sportsmans warehouse. Says normally $110 now $80. Infrared and 4D batteries. Is this a good deal? A really good deal?

Yes that's a good price. I'd pick up a couple at that price. Especially since it's a local purchase so that if there are any problems you can return them easily.

I have one Primos 35 that I picked up for $60 a couple years ago. It hasn't let me down yet. Love the fast trigger, they don't miss much.

Only downside is you may go through quite a few D batteries.  Most if the time I run mine on a 6 volt external battery.

Battery is the real downside. I have learned over the years that I would rather spend an extra $20 or more on a camera that uses AA batteries and has good battery life. Doesn't take long for those D batteries every few months to add up. I can go a whole year on one set of batteries in my Bushnell and that is getting over 15k pictures.

These aren't going up in my back yard. I will only be able to check every other week at the very earliest. Better to go with a unit that takes AAs? Are there rechargeable Ds? 

They also have the moultree a5 and the Browning Ranger at that price. Oh dear the choices....

Bushnell Trophy camera or Moultrie M-Series.  You can't go wrong there

You should get at least 4 weeks out of the D batteries, and probably longer if you're not set up on bait. If you're just on a trail I'm sure the batteries will last for two months, minimum. Or if you're worried about it, get two external batteries for each camera. Each time you check them you can swap the battery out with a freshly recharged one.

I would recommend you at least buy one. It's well worth the $80. I can't recommend either of the other two you mentioned.

Two others I would recommend right now would be the Moultrie d55 at Rogers Sporting Goods, currently it's on sale for $70. Great camera for the money.

The other would be if you can find a refurbished Moultrie M80 on eBay. They are going for $80.

I have multiple bushnell trophies and will continue to buy those. Couple bucks a year in batteries and I am set and I also really like the picture quality. Maybe start off with one of the Primos and then watch for sales on other models. I have an older wildgame camera that I use in spots where I feel there is a higher chance it could be found. Bought it for $50 a few years back so if it gets swiped, I won't lose any sleep.

I have the 35. I charged it up and left it outside in 0-20 degree weather and never had any issues. It took hundreds of pictures for weeks before I had to charge the batteries. I have the Primos solar panel and the 6 v battery and never have used it.

This thing is huge! No theft case for it?

Another nice thing about it is there is a hole through the back of it made for the use of a cable lock. You don't need to buy a separate metal box to lock it up. Just a Python cable.

Well I'm out of the store $205 later. I picked up the 35, as well as the Browning and a security box. I will keep it unopened and check out some reviews tonight.

Perfect. The best way to find out if a particular camera works for you, is to try it. For $80 I know you'll like the 35 if it works as it's supposed to. No guarantees, just as there never is with anything electronic that is made in China.

I've heard of problems with the lower priced Brownings but I have no experience with them. Chances are if it's not going to work correctly, you'll know that immediately. Try it at home first. If it doesn't work properly or if you just don't like it for whatever reason, take it back to the store.

Personally I love the 35 had one for 3 years until last year it got stolen. Never had 1 problem with it, took really good pictures, and even performed better then my Primos truth X cam. on one set the most pictures i got was 1515 and not one was a bad picture. definitely worth it.

I take it that won't fit into the camera itself, so it will have to stick out. So I'll need to do the whole yellow, red, and green wire(?) Now instead of stealing the cam they'll be calling in the bomb squad

 I have 3 of these cams and love them. Only down side is their bulk. As for the D batteries, no worries. I've had all three over beaver carcasses all winter taking thousands of pictures and haven't changed batteries yet! Like Bobcat said they also have great trigger speed and great video.

You guys confident in just using  a cable lock? I plan on being at least a mile away from the road and off the beaten path before setting one up. Though I may put one up over a water hole...

I think you misunderstood. The battery is on the ground, the camera is about 3 feet or more up on the tree.

I replaced the D batts in my 35 last year only 1 time from June to sept...with thousands of pics. Id rather buy 4 D for this cam then 12 dbl A batts in some of my other cams!

Yep, the battery life really is pretty decent. If you get two months out of the 4 D batteries, that's only $3.00 per month that it costs to run that thing. Not bad. I only use the externals sometimes because I set up over bait, and often it's during cold weather, plus like I said, I got the external batteries dirt cheap. l'm not sure I'd specifically go out and buy them for this particular camera.

I have been waiting 5 years for this elk tag. I'm not just going to scout for 4 days and call it good. I am going to shoot for a least 14 days in field scouting before the season opens. So yes I will be out there at least once a month! Granted that July and August will be more productive days, but should I get to hanging these cams in the next few weeks?

First I gotta find out which unit I drew

I would if you can or are going to be out there, although I think right now would just be for the fun of it. I don't think you need to rush out there.

I would start using the cameras right away. Just to test them and that way if there's a problem you can hopefully return it to the store. Also try to figure out which one you prefer, and you might pick up a couple more. You'll probably find that two isn't nearly enough.

Fingering the newd cameras tonight. It says in the instruction booklet to insert a card up to 32 GB but it says on the unit to insert a card up to 8 gb. What gives? I has 2x 16GB cards and an 8 gig on the way in the mail.

Well I haven't downloaded the cards yet but from watching the red LEDs light up I have some initial comparisons. Idk whether it's fair to most whether these two should be compared, but since they cost me the same I think it's fair to compare. 

I set both to 10 second delay. I paced off 5, 10, 15, and 20 yard intervals. This is with my step, which is about one yard, and not with an LRF. (edit: yes, they were set up on the same tree facing the same direction, which enabled a good comparison between the two).

The Browning seemed to wake up from sleep and fire off photos markedly quicker than the Primos. By the time the Primos LEDs lit up, the browning was almost ready for its second volley of shots. The Primos didn't even light up until I was past the zenith of the field of view. This was consistently the case at 5,10,&15 yards.  One noteworthy exception was at 20 yards where the Primos was able to eek out a few shots while the Browning  was snoozing.

Oddly enough, the opposite was the case for video. The Primos consistently woke up and lit up faster than the browning.

Now onto image quality....
