"New" TC Hawken
« on: April 03, 2014, 03:33:46 PM »
MANY coats of low gloss tung oil, buffed every 3 coats with 0000 steel wool. Last night I rubbed it down with boiled linseed oil and let it dry over night, wiped it down with a rag and shes very good looking now. Its amazing what an oil finish does VS a spray on finish, this stock was originally a orange looking color.

.40cal HM TC Hawken

This I did for a friend of mine, hope he likes it.

Very nice, I love the color. I see it is an early one, the little screw below the nipple tells me that. The only thing I would do is replace the wedge pin with a brass one to make it look like new.

thanks gents!

Just so you know, there is NO stain on the wood, just an oil finish, the oil brings out the true color of walnut.

 Awesome job!!! I like .40's  they have their place, & for fun shooting the lead & powder go a lot farther! Most of my guns could use some TLC, really like the Tung oiled stocks. Bravo!    Red Leaf

Actually, that's a much newer Green Mountain barrel.  I have the .50 cal LRH version for my Hawken.

Great job on the stock.  Looks fantastic.

No!  Hawkens never had any brass furniture--the fact that it has any brass on it, shows it's a reproduction.  The little screw below the nipple is a modern addition.  The Hawken I built back in the '70s doesn't have one, but my newly manufactured .54 Hawken did!  :sry:

Looks great, MD54!   I like the color and finish much better than the factory finish on my early '80 TC Renegade.

I plan to refinish my NW Trade Gun and you mentioned using tung oil, do you prefer that to true oil?
