Deer Multi season question

I thought that I read somewhere that there are usually more multi season deer tags than people apply for? Anyone know? I've never applied and this is my first year and kinda hoping to get one. I know the elk chances are slim with zero points so...Thanks for any info.

That's correct. If you apply you will draw- guaranteed. Then you can wait until August to decide if you want to buy it.

last year they had 8000 deer multi-season permits and only 6700 applied. That's not an exact number but it was near 6700 roughly.

$147.10 I think was the point.  If more tags that applicants why not just have hunters walk up to the counter and pay $145.00 on a first come first serve multi-season deer tag.  Save the department the cost and headaches of running a draw. 

How much do you think it costs this state to run the draw and answer all the phone calls of guys wanting to know why their entry hasn't posted in the back door yet when they haven't yet chosen single or group application?  I think it would probably make more money as a first come first serve purchase format.

Couldn't agree more on what everybody said... Either way, I'm just stoked to get a multi season tag.. I seem to usually come up empty on my archery hunts which I've done exclusively the past 5 yrs or so.. I'm hoping the multi expands my time in the woods during a hunting season ( I'm always out in the woods doing something)and my chances at a deer this year.. Can't wait!!!!  But I do agree, it would be so much easier to just have it first come first serve..

So here's another multi season deer question. I purchased my ML deer/elk tags along with the rest of my licenses for fish/hunt...I know I need to return my deer tag if/when I purchase the multi season, but do I get a prorated fee based on the tag I already purchased? Or do I have to pay the full amount for a multi deer? Thanks!

Did you notice I mentioned $145 as a first come first serve option instead of $140K?  In that case we are only talking about $14K difference in generated income.  This is the gooberment.  I expect they pay 14K just to replenish the toilet paper rolls each morning. 

Furthermore, I would guess they would sell more of the 8,000 tags than they do now.  They would only need to sell 322 more tags at $140 to exceed that $45K difference - 311 at $145.  Maybe/Maybe not...but something to think about.

One thing to consider. I believe you have to have paid for the MS before you apply for special permits.
That is one reason elk multiseason are so coveted. You can apply for permits in both EWa and WWa.

That is something that I didn't know.  Let me restate this, to make sure I got it right.  (I have never played the quality tag game, so I really don't know how the system works.  Also, I don't have any banked points for antlered elk, so this is just a theoretical exercise for me but it might help others.)

Let's say I want to apply for some great opportunity for antlered elk, in both Eastern and Western Washington.  Are you saying that I can apply for both sides of the state only if I already have been awarded the multiple season tag, AND I have already purchased it?
