I grew up in New Ipswich NH and spent a lot of time in Maine, love it there. You can fish for Landlocked Atlantic Salmon, harvest more than 1 deer, draw a moose permit every couple of years, big whitetails, 4 real seasons, real maple syrup...the list goes on. Just don't tell them you grew up in MA....lol

Since I've moved out here in '89, I haven't looked back. Summers are humid as hell and the winters are really long and cold. All the houses in our town were about 200 years old and heated with oil. $500-600/month to heat your home in the winter with a wood stove burning.

I miss the whitetails. I had a science teacher in high school who had a maple sugar house and we'd go over and help with the condensing process. Pretty cool stuff.

I am worried about the cold...but wood stove does help keep the cost down, but cost of living is one of the reasons im leaving...i need land, and to get something in western WA with land in a decent area for under 200k is hard...I'm getting a 3bed house on Penobscot bay with 10 acres backed up to 1000 acres of huntable private farm land for 140k..I tried to come close to that here but couldn't, I do love it here and will miss it.

Ya ill try to hide that I grew up in mass lol. My brother and parents have lives there for 8 years now so they have converted for m*censored*s to mainers.

What area are you moving to?

Penobscot, it's on the coast near Castine( Maine Maritime Acadamy) like 40 min to Bar Harbor, 40 to Bangor.

Oh you guys will like this one I called about the recreational shellfish licence a yesterday because I couldn't find any info on line. It's 1 dollar for the year and you are allowed a peck of clams, oysters, scallops, mussels ect. A day and season is 365 days a year .

Know Penobscot well, spent a lot time around there, Bath, Damiscotta, Fipsburg.
