I'm no particular fan of the looks of the Savage action, just something about it doesn't appeal to my eye, but there is certainly no denying how well Savage rifles shoot right out of the box. I don't recall exactly which model it is but Savage sells one of their models of 22-250 with a 1-9 twist barrel. I don't know of any other maker that has anything faster then a 1-12 twist and just about all the others hang 1-14tw tubes on them. I like taking advantage of the bigger case capacities of some of these chamberings, such as a 22-250, and shoot heavy for caliber bullets. Or at least have that as an option if I ever want to. So if I was looking for an off the shelf gun I can just go buy and have a good chance it shoots well, I'd look for a Savage 22-250 with the 1-9tw barrel.
Howa makes a very good rifle but I believe all of their 22-250's are fitted with a 1-14tw barrel. Nothing wrong with a 1-14tw but you will be much more limited on bullet selection if you want to shoot anything much over 50gr. bullets. If a 1-14tw works for you and you come across a Weatherby Vanguard in 22-250 that catches your eye, remember, the Vanguard is made by Howa.
