Garage sale finds
« on: March 28, 2014, 06:02:58 PM »
I wish I could say I was the one who had the honor in harvesting these great animals and I could not believe they would let them go for $25.  Even though they are not my animals I could not let them meet their fate of being tossed into the shed or garbage.  After they found out i really liked the ones i purchased they told me they had a few more and that I could have them for free so I also received a nice caribou shoulder mount, red stag  shoulder mount and an antelope shoulder mount.  I love garage sales :) now if I can fill the wall with my own trophies that would be great.

I was a garbage man for years, and I was always surprised how many antlers people throw away.  Most I would guess were from divorces, or from people clearing out grandpa's old stuff that had no value to them.  Either way I always made space for them somewhere in the house, never did find a full shoulder mount though I am glad to hear those beautiful creatures will not be residing in a landfill somewhere.

you didnt pick those mounts up at the garage sale off of filburt rd. did you ? if you did i'm gonna be kicking my self for not stopping by the other day. in any case nice find, and im sure whoever did get them mounted would be happy that they ended up in good hands.

They were picked up just down the road in Kirkland.  It was a great weekend of garage sales as the next day I also picked up a Vintage 1970's Smith & Wesson .357 K frame in its original box from an elderly gentleman up near the Kenmore Range but kick myself for not picking up the 1890 .22 Winchester he had that belonged to his dad.  Sometimes it feels like the coolest stuff pops up when you don't have enough money and there are times I will save up money for those situations and there is nothing to spend it on :)

I told my wife that if meet an untimely death she needs to advertise my bull mount and sell it for a premium price rather than throwing it out.  Not sure I should have let her in on that since it potentially provides motive. :o

Nice finds guys. Wish my yard sale career went that good. Mostly all I see is baby stuff. Or really expensive things that I just don't have an interest in. But have found a few good deals. Once got about 500 professionally hand tied flys for fly fishing from a guy that a saw later on a tv show that fished in Montana for 10 bucks or so. Another one I bought a compound bow with half dozen arrows and brand new broad heads for 35 bucks. Later went and shot my first elk that year with it. So consider that not too bad. Wish I could go more but work weekends now so no time.

Nice finds. I stopped at one once and they had 4 Elk shoulder mounts, 6 mule deer, 3 whitetails, a full body bear mount, caribou,  and a bobcat. They wanted $400 for everything  and I couldn't get them to separate them. The financial advisor ( wife) declined the purchase.

I found a 10 1/2 inch Oregon mountain goat at a garage sale one time. Paid 25 bucks for it. They told me i had just missed a full curl bighorn mount by 15 minutes. They sold that for 50 bucks, I was sick! They called me a couple days later and gave me an antelope mount that was also from Oregon. Both qualify for Boone and Crockett unofficially when I scored them. Pretty neat finds.

I picked up some pretty sweet wildlife photography for next to nothing at yard sales last year.  Haven't scored any mounts yet though.  I love yard sales sometimes.
