Wifes first deer!!!!
« on: November 23, 2008, 02:38:05 PM »
I am so proud to be writing this right now!  I obtained permission to hunt a gold mine of a ranch in central wa.. We hunted it on thursday with many close calls and one huge buck, id put him at well over 160... My wife megan has wanted to learn how to bowhunt sine we got together, I bought her a HOYT Kobalt last year and I taught her the proper way to shoot, she picked it up very fast, I also trained her with exercises so she could hold better and pull more weight, shes now at 60lbs! she did not get to hunt in sep due to school, shes a teacher and also she just wasnt quite ready yet. We practiced and she got good out to 60yrds to where I felt she was ready to take a deer at that range. We hunted hard all day and saw tons of deer and some really nice bucks, the deer were somewhat spooky in the area and she drew back 2 times at 55yrds on nice does and they took off right before she setteled the pin in for the shot. almost at dark in one of the fieldwe saw 9 deer feeding on the edge, we  snuck in off the the driveway and got to the field.. all the deer had dissapeared! megan was a little sad but I said hey, we still have 20 min of light left you never know! we then walked out of the field to another road that connects another green field to a piece of woods, as were walking back out I looked up and 2 nice does were feeding in the field, they had us pinned and jogged into the field we just came from, I looked up and saw 4 deer at the egde of the field that we just walked out of!!  the we kept walking and I looked into the field again not 45 sec later and the field was FULL of deer, they were coming into the field in 5 and 6 at a time, I counted 38 before I said we have one more chance and we high tailed it to get back around on them. we only had a few minutes of light left, we made it to the edge of the field but they deer had mostly moved back into the woods, we got to the egde and there were 3 huge does , I ranged them at 62yrds, the first 2 stepped into the woods and the last one stood there, she knew something was there but she wasnt sure, she was almost quartering to us, but I knew megan could make the shot and I said  shes 62, she drew and came down on the doe, I said relax, pick a spot.. and wack!!! I could not see the hit but it sounded good and as the doe ran past us in the field she looked pretty hurt, we watched her get to the edge of the field and stop then it looked like she stumbbled and was gone.. meg was shaking, it happend all so fast she said.. did I get her? I said yes hun, I think you did!!. We then circled out of the field  and got nack to my truck with my buddy cody waiting for us, we drove to the nearest town, grababed a few drinks for after the deer was found and headed back to look for the arrow and find the blood trail. Cody found blood first and it wasnt much but it was good in color and had bubbles so I knew we had her, after a few yrds it started to really pour and the rest of the track was easy! blood was all over to say the least, we found the doe pilled up about 200yrds from the shot, megan hit her perfect, square in the chest and the arrow went inside of the shoulder and right into both lungs.. when we found the deer the arrow was still in her and perfectly fine! the doe hung on the scale after skinning her at 125lbs..... she was huge!! and to share that moment with a good freind and my wife is priceless, im so proud of her and her hard work on the range and having the confidence to make that shot in low light at that range!!!!!!! wow!!

Congrats to you and your wife, great looking deer.  Should eat real good!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.
