Ravens
« on: November 22, 2008, 09:56:28 PM »
Tried some coyote calling today with no luck, with coyotes anyways.  So my first stand was a bust but as I was about to get up and leave I saw a raven flying nearby.  I just happened to have some "crow in distress" mp3 in my home brew e-caller.  It is a recording of a whole murder of crows all upset.  So I let er rip.  The raven just kept on going like he didnt even hear it.  Well I let it play while I gave the clearing one last look.  And then from out of nowhere comes about a dozen ravens (ravens not crows).  They were circling over my caller that was about 30 yards away from me.  They were flying about 20 feet above my head and had no clue I was there.  I had no idea ravens were so big up close.  They put on a very loud show for about 5 minute until they got bored or realized that there were no other ravens on the ground.  It was really cool and extremely loud, even their wings are loud.  Anyways if you ever get a chance you should try calling them in, it is an awesome show.

I was thinking that having a flock hovering around might actual get coyotes to come in faster, you think it might work?  I know some animals use birds to find food.

When i was deer hunting this year there were a bunch of crows flying around what i think was a gut pile and I saw 3 coyotes go to that spot. To bad i had 3 legal bucks a couple hundred yards from me, and they were on privite land.
