Upland around Moses Lake
« on: November 23, 2008, 05:43:05 PM »
I am going to watch the semi-finals in football with Burlington against Prosser in Moses Lake next weekend. I am thinking of taking the bird dog and turning it into a hunting trip. I know the duck hunting is better than upland around Moses Lake but does anyone have any tips for upland around there? Thanks for the help.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't think everyone would be so tight lipped about Moses lake. Maybe I am missing out on more than I think. Well I will let you know how I do. I am taking my 4 year old son so the excursions are going to be an hour long or so. We'll see how he does. Hopefully Burlington will win so the hunting doesn't have to be all that great to make it a good trip.

Hunt on the Wildlife Area just west of Moses Lake, where the WDFW releases pheasants. Should be a few out there. I haven't hunted over there for almost 10 years so I can't help you out much more than that. You might check the WDFW site...I think there's some info on there about the release sites.

Thanks for the replies. I knew of the release sights but if they are anything like the west side release sights I will pass with my boy tagging along. Getting sprayed is not fun by yourself especially not fun when you have your 4 year old tagging along. I'll check them out and if there not packed I will give her a shot. I will let you guys know how I do.
By the way, nice Entiat buck.

I will update anyone that cares. We got 4 Rooster's, three Huns, and one mallard. Not to bad of a trip considering I had my four year old and was limited on how much ground we could cover. I was in awe of all the geese though. I don't think there was any time of day when you couldn't look somewhere in the sky and see at least a few if not hundreds of geese. My boy had a good time. Next time I go back I will be hunting waterfowl at least half the day.

You did VERY well on the roosters. I live in M.L., hit a few spots on sunday and only put up one hen. My dogs only got excited once or twice all day! LOTS of hunters all over. Glad you found some.

The Huns actually came from Quincy on a stop on the way to Moses Lake. They were in the sage next to crop land. I was actually looking for quail but found Huns instead.

Sounds like fun Shannon.  Did ya take any pictures?  Years ago a buddy and I went over and goose hunted Mooses lake I know what your talking about compared to over here, literly thousands of birds, flying all day.  We did very well over there on a two day trip.

Hey James,
We should plan a duck/goose hunt in January over there. I can arrange some access to about 800 acres of private farm land. We should be able to find a few birds. No pictures of this trip. Handling a 4 year old and a 12 month old pup is about all I could handle. I did take the camera but didn't take it out of the case. How did the quest for the big blacktail go?
