Gloves
« on: April 08, 2014, 07:54:18 PM »
Lost a glove elk hunting last year so in market for new ones.  Thinking of the Kuiu layering set with the merlino and Yukon as outer/weatherproofing.  Any thoughts on these or suggestions??

I can't speak to the Kuiu Merino or Yukon, but I have the Kuiu Guide gloves and I love them. That being said, I often prefer to just wear wool fingerless gloves.

I'm not a huge glove wearer but when I have to, I wear the underarmour gloves.  They don't make my glove anymore but they are very similar to the heat gear / liner glove.  I hate bulk so I like them thin with great dexterity.  They keep my hands plenty warm and dry.

Hanz FR Liners,
Toughest most comfortable glove that allows mobility and still keeping trigger sense. Can be used as a liner (duh) with mittens as well, but I prefer them alone for hunting or anything that you need protection from.

Sealskinz work good as well in both conditions

I've spent hundreds of dollars on gloves over the years, Sitka, KUIU, etc.  From $99 - $0.99.  The best all around glove I found was $0.99.  They were at Wal Mart on sale 10 years ago, and I bought 30+ pair. Gave half away, and kept the rest.  Have about 5 pair left.  They are a loose fitting fleece glove.  These gloves keep my hands warmer in 20 degree weather than the top of the line warmest Sitka gloves.  Those along with the KUIU insulated glove were sent back and money refunded within weeks.  Worst case scenario, I'd put a thin merino liner under the cheap fleece gloves when it was ridiculously cold and they worked great.  For warmer seasons like turkey or archery elk hunting, I use Under Armour thin tight fitting gloves with a tacky grip.  Couldn't be happier for $20.  Going on 8 years now and they are about ready to be replaced.  As for the warm gloves, I feel it is key to get a size too big so they fit loose.  Gloves are one thing that I feel a guy doesn't have to buy the most expensive and best brands, to get the best product. :twocents:

I've been using these for the past few seasons. Good fit and plenty warm
