night time coyote hunting
« on: November 23, 2008, 08:16:20 PM »
We are planning a varmint hunt, next weekend, probably near sprague washington , 4th of july lake area, we hear its loaded with coyotes  Has anybody hunted them at night? if so can you use a huge flashlight to spot them or do you really need to use infared, any suggestions would be appriciated. are there any other varmints in the area to hunt? maybe golphers?  any suggestions would be appriciated.
thanks
dave

i dont think many people use infrared to hunt them though i could be wrong.  i think most people use a red lens on thier lights to help with night blindness and allowing the light to be aimed more directly at the animal.  with or with out a lens you want to shine it just above the animal and let the glow illuminate thier eyes... of course i pry dont know what im talkin bout cause all we can ever get them to do is howl back at us.  good luck though and post pics if yer successful!!

id be careful what 'gophers' you shoot at  the golden ground squirrel is a protected species and i would imagine could be mistaken for a gopher.  im sure there are coyotes in the area and possibly rabbits?

Ill take 'Buck Fever' over 'Swine flu'...

( shoot shoot I cant see em O theirs one......****+++) . I also banged the gun getting out of the truck on a bobby guess thats hunting it was fun.

There is a mix of public and private land there. I have always seen horses and cows grazing around there, so I would be careful at night.
