2nd deer tag price reduced.
« on: April 14, 2014, 10:00:48 AM »
Nice to see that the price of the 2nd deer tags has dropped to $43.40 from $68.00. Still a little ridiculous since these tags are being used by hunters as a management tool that for some reason we have to pay so much for. That logic from our state comes as no surprise I guess at this point.

I'm thinking about actually applying for a tag this year instead of just the point like I have been doing. There's an eastern Washington 2nd deer permit if like to draw. Sure, with the cost of the tag and the price of gas, it will still be some expensive meat. But to me my money is paying for a vacation, and the meat is free.

I have hunted a San Juan island with private access only since 1981. The island has too many deer. When the second deer tag price increased a few years back, the number of applicants dropped from around 30 to less than 10. This is a good move for that particular situation, as more deer need to be taken.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

Same here, Bob. Another hunt where I'd apply allows some more family time for my wife and daughter at the wife's mom's place. That price is a little less painful...just about enough to allow me to apply again.

I'm hoping to draw a 2nd deer rifle tag with my multi season tag.

I enjoyed my second deer tag in 2012.  I happened upon a color phase bear which I would never have seen and killed it and then took my doe on the last day of the hunt.  I happened to have a late buck tag that year so wasn't looking for a buck during the general season.  It was one of my favorite hunting seasons where I filled 3 tags that year! You never know what might happen on a hunt like that.  I also enjoy taking kids out on general season hunts when I have a late season tag.  I'm not tempted to shoot a buck during general season and can take a kid out hunting and let them shot something. I love those seasons!!! It's better when the price is lower, but I had no problem spending the $68 for the tag.
