Update:

I just got off the phone with the Pomeroy Ranger District Office and the lady on the phone was very helpful.  It sounds like they are in the process of clearing the 40 all the way to the Clearwater lookout tower.  She also said the Cloverland road was open to the Hogback turn off (I'm assuming this is where the east end of the 4302 loop ties into the 43).  She said they didn't have any info on the Mountain Rd. coming in from Anatone because they hadn't had any people needing to travel that way.

I'm heading up there either Wednesday night or Thursday morning.  I'm going up Cloverland as far as I can.  If I can get some service on my phone I will try and post an update on how far I make it.  Hopefully I can at least get to the top of Mt. View on my 4-wheeler.

At the Clearwater guard tower, you're still a ways away from the Wenaha.
Cloverland is still short too and 4 wheeler is a no-no.

Why do you say 4-wheeler is a no-no?  We ride them all over during elk season with no problems from the forest service.

And I should clarify that I am hunting Mt. View, not Wenaha.  So I don't need to travel on the 40 road, just the 43 and 4304 which are both open to all vehicles.

You can't make it up the 41 to the intersection of 42.  I tried Saturday and it was a no go.  6" of fresh snow and 31 degrees at 2:00 pm.
It is still full blown winter up there.  Pretty crazy, but it is this way most years.

No deer, no elk and no bears.  Pretty scarce of game in all of these areas.

Is this a Federal or State law?  Looks like the Forest Service is okay with 4-wheeler use on their Motor Vehicle Use maps.  It shows most of the roads up there "open to all vehicles".  It even shows a picture of people riding 4-wheelers right on the map.  :dunno:  I could be missing something though.

If you read that map you posted there are certain roads that are only open to highway legal vehicles. Pretty sure it's the main ones 40,41 and 42. I have seen the no 4 wheeler signs on the road. That is likely what Jackelope is mentioning.

I drew mt view last year. I stopped at the pomeroy ranger station and talked to them and got a map of the areas. They gave the green light to ride quads up there so we did.  :dunno: we stayed off the roads where it was posted a no no. We mainly road them to get past snow drifts and then parked them and went hiking.

There is a FS approved ATV trail that parallels the Mountain rd. it connects all the side roads off of the 40 road. All of the side roads are open to ATVs. The mountain rd is open from Mt. Misery intersection to the Southern start of the 40 rd to ATVs. Be sure to wear your helmets they will ticket you. Apparently the fish cops have nothing better to do.

The Ranger station has maps available that shows this. I think it is also on the web site.
